Am I only one who's tired of that Jill of all trades, master of everything?

From Battlemech 7 Commando to Battlemech 11 Cataphract we're getting the same female mechwarrior as the announcement protagonist. Not only is it boring, but also seems non-canon, as no mechwarrior (except for video gamers) would change his ride so often and be equally proficient with so many so different mechs. The "battle piece" announcement concept is somewhat better in my opinion than earlier announcements of Dragon, Catapult and Centurion (though the latter three are good and diverse enough among themselves, too), but may we please please hear the stories of other warriors, not just that Mary Sue over and over again, recalling a herd of her previous mechs each time she drives a new one?

What sorts of befouled magic is this?? Why such voodoo??

What is this "Jill-of-all-trades"!?

All lies and jest! Cry for mercy you denouncer of all things pure!

On a serious note I like the little side stories with each mech release. I think it is important to include females despite my comical satire in the story as there were some very prominent female characters in the BattleTech story line. Besides it's year 2012, and I'm all for recognizing women for their dew diligence to compete with men. Regardless of what they say about females on the front lines of combat companies in the Army, some of the best soldiers I have ever had the pleasure to serve side by side with were females.

I hope going forward more women are portrayed as Sigourney Weaver's character in Aliens than some other movies I can think of.

Or it could be the memoirs of someones entire career.

Let's just say that she has a low K/D ratio and plays a lot of CoD.

this seems like trivial nitpicking tbh..it's not like the stories are very deep or profound; it's just a bit of "food for the imagination" to pass the time..

;) its prolly suposed to be showing her progressing through the ranks and getting new mechs along the way ... its not like we are getting any back story on her after all .... anyway why be too picky about it =3 as a snipet its pretty interesting in its own right =3

I think you have a point here - give us some more diversity MWO ;)
- allthough I hope we will get some female pilots interested whatever the protagonists in the stories -

Besides, who can forget the story of the Raven, told almost entirely from the point of view of the incomparable McDoomswinger?

I actually like the little storyline -- adds character to the game. It shows me the Devs care about rounding out the game... not just making 3d models.

Would you prefer they just plop a picture on there?

Well this is going to be your story as a player. You 1 pilot, many Mechs

Exactly. I doubt most players will stick to only one 'Mech when they play.

You mean...
"Back in my day, we didn't have these fancy Protomechs running around, or a dozen different types of powered armor. We just had Elementals."
Or...
"We didn't have heavy or light Gauss rifles. We just had plain old Gauss rifles, one size fit all, and we liked it!"

the use of the same pilot also allows them to add in the little tid bits that provide mech to mech comparison from someone who has piloted the full gamut. In any case I don't think it's any thing to actually be concerned with.

I for one have actually been rather enjoying the little back stories, I can't pilot the 'Mechs yet but this way I get a taster of how they are at least supposed to perform.

And frankly I suspect I'll be moving through the classes as time passes anyway so it's nice to hear the stories from the perspective of someone doing the same.

It's better than a picture and another set of dry specs

64kmph
AC10
uac5
lrm5
2 med lasers
9 tonnes of armour...

...doesn't really sell it as well as a tale.

I like to imagine her in bikini style suit that barely fit. It makes the storytelling better.

On a side note I'm stuck in a parking lot and its hailing marble size hail.
