Ah but then I lose all the blowhard entertainment value....... Vass thinks he is trolling us, when in reality a lot of us throw him bones just to watch him go. He is so much more entertaining that way.

Nah, my time's too valuable for that ;)

Back on topic: Btw I rather seldom see the same people online in games (teams of 8 excluded). I know a whole bunch of guys from the forums here and most of them I have never seen in the game although I play at different time zones, depending on the day. So I guess the player base must be quite large, at least large enough to not encounter the same few people again and again.

343 people not playing the game. Wonder why...

Because while i can read a forum at work, It is not advisable that i play big stompy robots, and given that i like the game and am interested in news and conversation surrounding it the only thing for it is to be on the forum while i can't be playing... unless there was some other wildly speculative assumption you were trying to unsuccessfully point to..

cause my work computer wont run the game? Not to mention, popping an occasional comment is not distracting me from actually do my job and thus, defrauding my employer, while outright hours of stompy mechs, would be?

It's gonna get hard to convince people we aren't the same person....

I've seen maybe 3 regular posters in game. So this makes me think the same thing.

MWO is not dying.

It is not growing either, more like treading water.

http://beta.xfire.com/games/mwo

It's only a sample size of 200,000 gamers but we still see the features we would expect, like spikes around the 8th and 18th of december in hours played - so people coming in to check out how things handle with the new patch.

There was more activity over the holidays with the kids off of school except for the dip on christmas day and new years eve ;)

Anyway if we accept the sample size as big enough we can say that the population of *active* players has been flat for the last month, not growing, not dying.

I wouldn't expect the population to grow until a huge patch or the game is in a more "Final build" form.

If I understand it it's showing us the daily accumulated play time in MWO of players who have the Xfire client installed.

The biggest complaint about Xfire is that it's only 200,000 gamers that have it, so of that only a few hundred might have MWO mercs.

In bigger games it does a good job of accurately showing the ranking of what game is getting the most play time, but for smaller games it might not be representative.

For example - the champion of PC gaming in terms of man hours played: http://www.xfire.com...gue_of_Legends/

Interestingly though we can clearly see spikes where we would expect them around patch day and a higher level around the holidays so it's at least following expectations that far.

It also appears to be showing us that the amount of play time put in isn't rising or falling over the last month, so by extension new players (with xfire) are coming in at the same rate that they are leaving - treading water.
