Is there a way to change what hardpoints are on a mech? I wanted to replace a couple of lasers with SRM's but the hardpoint was energy only. I was just wondering if there was a way to change that energy to missle?
Also is there a way to take arms off of a mech? I'd rather have the weapons close in and the arm mounted weapons throw me off when I'm hugging buildings for cover.

Nope, there is no way you're ever going to fit a missile or ballistic weapon on a laser hardpoint. There is no way to change the hardpoint type.
Sorry.

It is not possible to change hardpoints.
Chose a mech with a hardpoint layout that suits you better.
And if you don´t like your arms you can strip the armor on them to zero - a friendly opponent will remove them soon.
I don´t recommend that.
Arms are important shields on most mechs.I advise you to improve your hugging skills instead.

Check this site: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
It lists all of the mechs and their hard points, so it gives you an idea of what you are getting in to *before* you buy a mech. That way you can pick the mech you buy based on what it is that you are looking for in a build.

Thanks guys, I'll check smurfy-net out tonight. I'm too used to the old school battletech game where we could turn an Atlas into a walking gunboat if we wanted. There was a time we would spend entire Saturdays just pouring over the Technical Readout books and creating dream-team mechs, then spending all day Sunday fighting them in the Solaris games... ahhh the good ol' days!

Yeah, I'm with you on that. We used to do all sorts of stupid things to mechs, just to see how they'd work (or not, as the case may be).
But really, I'm a big fan of the hardpoint system. You don't have the flexibility that I was used to, but it also means that each mech has it's purpose. It'll only get better as they continue to release more mechs and variants.
