If you shoot already cored mechs, it only registers the damage you did to kill the mech.. if it's less than 40.. you did less than 40 damage to kill the mech. (I think damage transfer would only work until the mech dies.)

I was just in a match where I was standing next to a teammate near the beginning of one of the mountainous maps.

I was behind a hill he was to my left peaking out and took a PPC to the chest sparks flying everywhere dead center of mass hit. I pressed Q ... he was still at 100% health.

Besides the OP's original story, there's something else amiss with PPC's. I've seen several enemy mechs hit me with PPC's. I get the full cockpit shake and I'm only about 800m away from them, but I receive zero damage.

And a few times they were ER PPC's too, as eventually I'd close in and target them and look over their loadout.

I usually get decent number of kills but relatively low overall damage in the area of 200+ damage in my 5 PPC Cataphract due to how concentrated the beams are on a single location. Usually kill injured mechs with just one shot.

Again, lag shooting applies when using PPCs. It may look like you hit but most of the time, you aren't. You need to lag shoot, that's what makes PPC boats so hard to play well. Sparks flying off an enemy means nothing in MWO unless your reticle turns red on the shot.

Just a guess but if there isn't any more armor/structure to destroy on a kill-shot you probably aren't going to do full damage. 8 structure remaining + 10 points potential damage = 8 damage?

was going to guess this, wonder if its true

anyways, until we get stats broken down about how much damage we did per weapon per match, we are never going to get past anything more than speculation

I can confirm similar results.

Using a stalker 2 er ppc 2 ppc build

I have also been on the opposite side of some oddness.

Got blasted square in the CT by a PPC boat stalker. The range was great no obsticals a perfect clear shot.

I get the BOOM! the visual PPC splash but take no damage at all.

Lagshield was unlikely a walking atlas isn't all that fast.

There is something fishy going on.

I was in a match that turned into a base rush. When I got to the enemy base, there was an enemy mech that was afk. I fired 4 shots with my ppc into him, then finished cap. The afterbattle screen said I did 20 damage. I also know that I was outside of the 90 meter minimum range too.

No issues to report here. Reporting from my 6 PPC Awesome the "Thor's Hammer".

More than likely the remaining HP of the target location wasn't the full damage of the PPC's fired.
