Hey all, new pilot here. I've played the Centurion for a few games, and believe he's the mech I'd like to start with. My question is: Which variant should I choose? I have no idea which variant may be 'gimped' as it is.

Suggestions are appreciated. :P

Well, the centurion is my favorite chasis, personally I like the CN9-A, medium lasers and Srm 6's make a great hit and run brawler but it really depends on how you like to play your cent. The CN9-AL has nice laser hardpoints probably my second favorite chasis. I am not a fan of the CN9-D I dont like running XL's in my setup's to easy to be taken out with a lucky shoulder shot.

The CN9-YLW is pretty good but it has very limited load outs, only having the 2 CT laser hard points and 2 balistics in the arm... most people keep the 2 ml's and either leave the AC 20 or swap it out for a Gauss... It does cost MC and it gives the 30% cbill bonus but its probably the Centurion chasis I use the least out of my setups.

Love the Cent, I tend to run the largest engine possible and zombie them rather than expect them to compete with more survivable mechs.

I like the A the most, two MLs and 3 6 packs makes a great harasser with a sting.

I run the D similarly with an XL, but is capable of much more speed which enables it to give ECM Ravens a really hard time.

The AL does nothing for my play style, and I will be getting a Wang next month for that AC20 thump...

Alright, thanks to both of you for the input. I'm pretty lost on how to customize him as well; what would you guys suggest? I've been playing the CN9-D variant since he's free.

Endo and DHS as a minimum. It depends how you like to play as what weapons I would recommend.

Which would you suggest I pick up first? I have enough for the Endo chassis, but should I prioritize the double heat sinks?

Centurions are tanks when played right. Can't go wrong with an A or an AL I have an XL engine in every one, gets you goin 90kph+ and mid 50 alphas which is hard to beat. I've got a 2 PPC assault sniper Cent-AL (50 alpha) and a 2 LL light destroyer AL (58 alpha), an SRM and LRM A variant, a gauss YLW, and a crap D variant (glorified light mech) so yea 6 Centurions in my garage.

yes you want DHS and endo in every mech not an assault.

CN9-A and AL are the ones I like

CN9-AL- Two energy hardpoints for the gun hand (I put a PPC in mine for fun), two missile points on the shoulder

CN9-A- Only one ballistic hardpoint in the gun hand and 3 missile points on the shoulder...probably wont use all 3 missile slots unless you use smaller launchers, but I think it's a nice mech

CN9-D- You are paying for the XL engine and a bunch of other crap you probably wont need. It's expensive as hell and unless you want to grind the XP, it's a waste of money IMO. You get 2 ballistic slots in the gun arm and 2 missiles in the shoulder...if you want dual ACs or something, this is the one to get, but having two cannons will likely limit the rest of your loadout.

YLW- You can mount an AC/20 in it and it gives a c-bill boost, but it has no missile slots, costs real money, and it has a paintjob that screams "shoot me!"

Well the A with 2 medium laser's, 3 srm 6's with 4-5 tons of ammo. Endo/DHS and a 260 standard engine was my primary build... i've changed it a bit but thats my brawler setup.

on my AL I have 4 medium lasers, 2 srm6's 240 standard engine endo/dhs and ams... this is a pretty good all-round build, lots of versatility good speed (77.7 before speed skill) runs heat efficiently with a 1.23 rating.

Start with the A. Personally I run the 260? (the biggest)standard engine in it with a pair of MLs and 3x SRM6. Max out the armor, and put the 4t of SRM ammo in the legs.

Start play just behind a heavy or assault, and once it engages flank and add your fire power. Keep your speed high, and learn to snap shot effectively with the SRMs and you're golden. Heat can be an issue, so keep an eye on your scale.

I love my cent-9D, I have the biggest xl engine which with speed tweek I go 139 K/H. So im basically a jenner with more armor. To achieve this though I only carry 2 med pulse and 2 streak with dbl hs, endo and ff. However, speed kills.

I've mastered all four and they're all solid mechs. The big surprise was the AL; that's an awesome mech!

Basically, you can't go wrong with a Centurion.
