I really dont under stand how that the Assault class mechs can only mount a few weapons and still not be effective. The whole point of an Assault class is to stack the weapons and armor up and go out and ASSAULT the enemy... Just seems like the greatness of the game is lost in the bandwagon of forcing people to work in teams all the time.

Umm, If you've played MP before, then you may have noticed that the "greatness of the game" is saved for good teams.

You're mistaking successes in single player campaigns with those in MP.

Think of an Assault mech as a capital ship. Powerful, but also vulnerable to submarines (Ravens) Cruisers (Cataphracts/Catapults), and so on. You don't send a Battleship out to fight submarines because it will get it's candy stolen from it.

It's a team game, and if you don't support team play in a team game you have garbage. I play pug all the time and even I know that.
