This issue has started only in the last 4 or so. I never use Chain Fire, as I generally have no use for it. However, in every other match or so, it turns itself on sometime AFTER the start of the game. Maybe a few minutes into the match ( Maybe a few weapons fires? ), but almost never the first time firing. After that, the weapons all fire in chain. I end up hitting friend or foe and overheating. I try doing backspace, but that only works maybe 70 percent of the time. Other times I have to do backspace more than once, or while more than one weapon is selected. As I generally run mostly lazers, this has started to become more than just annoying. When the match starts, chainfire is definately not on, as the numbers do not cycle thru on all weapons. Is there something I can do about this? An option somewhere that may be set to some odd key turning it on? Can I turn it off permanantly?

Hitting the Backspace key enables/disables chainfire. It is possible that is being tapped at some point in the game and not being aware of it. Or a device being used, a gamepad or one of the newer tons of buttons mice is doing a backspace command that is activating chain fire.
