Rash. There is a setting in the profile editor which sets the toebrakes to emulate mouse movement.
Try the following.
Click on the Saitek Icon.
You should see an option to clear profile.
click on that.
After that click on "clear startup". Then start the profile editor.
Check to see if your profile is listed as Fall Back after that.
Tell me what you see and if Mouse X or Y is checked on any Axis. There is a programming error there if it moves the mouse.
Does it move the mouse cursor outside the game? Check and see.
Thanks

Surely, if MWO does not recognise the axis properly, you could use GlovePIE or Autohotkey to map the saitek to keyboard (No point in using an axis at the moment anyway, as there is no analogue turning).
We know that GlovePIE / Autohotkey *keyboard* mappings work, so surely this is a viable solution?

Hammerhai,

Did all those steps and checked. The toe brakes are listed as fall back and they do not move the mouse at all.

EvilC,

I think that you are correct that I might be able to use a third party software to make the pedals work; however, before I resort to adding yet another program to the game, I want to make sure that there is not a way to make them work with the game without the need for a third party software interface.

The game has a field in the options menu for joystick control to allow turning the mech... the darn thing should be able to work with the pedals. It doesn't, mind you, but it should.

Well, another night, and another attempt to make the pedals work.

CyBerkut, tried to set the pedals to any column but the third column, but that doesn't work. The only column that MWO will recognize the pedal input from appears to be the third column.

I told you before that it belongs in the third column, so I don't know why you would try it in one of the others.

Scrolled down to the line labelled "turn" and set the rudder pedals to that. Started the game and result: the game thinks I want to turn forever to the right! If I push the pedals to try to turn left I can turn left, but as soon as I take my foot off of the pedals it immediately starts turning right again.

and what exactly did the entry appear as? Was it "something like j0_rot_z, or j1_rot_z"?

I'm guessing it wasn't, because it sounds like it took one of your toe brakes as the axis input instead. Please note that I mentioned that you need to avoid depressing the toe brakes while assigning the rudder pedal axis.

Please try it again, making sure that you do not accidently actuate a toe brake while assigning the rudder pedal axis to "Turn" in the third column. If necessary, use you hands to actuate it while you are doing that.

I know that it's not the SST software interfering because I turned it off. The game doesn't seem to recognize when I'm at zero rudder.I know it's not the pedals, because I can check that input, and the positive and negative are working just fine, so it's definitely a problem with the game somehow not interpreting the input correctly.

Does anyone know how agravating it is to try and play this game while forever turning to the right?

I know how aggravating it is, because I accidently actuated a toe brake while attempting to assign my rudder pedals axis, and did not notice the incorrect entry. Yes, it gave me the same behavior.

Trying to configure and use Saitek Pro Flight Pedals to turn a mech left or right results in the mech turning constantly to the right... forever. The game does not recognize when the pedals are at zero (no input left or right). Additionally, once the pedals are set to turn, even if the pedals are later set to something else, like torso twist, the mech will still continue turning to the right for as long as the pedals are plugged in. The only way to stop the mech from turning to the right is to unplug the pedals and restart the game.

Steps to Reproduce:
  • Plug in the Saitek Pro Flight Pedals.
  • Login to the game.
  • Open the options menu.
  • In the "configure Controls" menu on the right hand side, Under the "joystick" column, double click the box for "turn" near the bottom.
  • Set the pedals to the command by moving the Saitek Pro Flight Pedals as if turning left or right.
  • Click "yes" if the prompt "Do you wish to remap your controls?" appears.
  • Observe that the box states, "J0_rot_z".
  • Click the box marked "SAVE" in the lower left corner.
  • Launch a match.
  • Observe as your mech continuously turns to the right.
  • Move the pedals and also observe that the mech will turn to the left as long as the pedals are depressed, but as soon as the left turn command stops, the mech returns to continuously turning to the right.
  • Quit the match.
  • Open the options menu and in the "configure Controls" menu on the right hand side, Under the "joystick" column, double click the box for any other command, such as torso twist.
  • Set the pedals to the command.
  • Observe that the box for torso twist states,"J0_rot_z" and that turn no longer states, "J0_rot_z".
  • Click the box marked "SAVE" in the lower left corner.
  • Launch a match.
  • Observe as your mech continuously turns to the right, even though the pedals are no longer set to turn the mech.
  • Move the pedals and also observe that the pedals will torso twist the mech while the mech continues to constantly turn to the right.

Notes:
The keyboard or rudder pedals can still be used to turn the mech to the left, but the right turn is constantly being inputted and if other input is stopped, the mech will return to turning to the right. The only way to stop the input is to disconnect the pedals entirely. If the pedals are plugged back in and the game restarted, the mech will again constantly turn right.

Very important note: When the pedals are set to torso twist they perform perfectly. Therefore, it can be safely assumed that the problem is not the pedals but is instead a problem with the MWO software interpretation of input for the turn command signal.

Workarounds:
Haven't found one yet.

Given that the torso twist (analog) works perfectly, but the turn (digital) does not, it might be that the pedals will be unplayable as turn input until the point that the devs modify the game code to make turning an analog signal input.

I have the Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals, which are functionally the same as the regular rudder pedals. I have j1_rot_z in the "Turn" field of my joystick column in the MWO options, and they work fine. [ My X-52Pro HOTAS is j0 and my rudder pedals are j1 ]

Unless you have a corrupted file, I doubt the MWO client is the culprit. There may be a config file in it that is misconfigured, but since I can't see your machine's contents, I can only guess.

You might try making a back up copy of your Actionmaps.xml file, and then deleting the Actionmaps file.

If you have a Defaultprofile.xml file or a systemcfgoverride.cfg file lurking somewhere in your MWO folder/subfolders, back those up and then delete the originals as well.

Also, check your USER.CFG file. If you have this line in there:

cl_joystick_invert_turn = 1 // Invert turn axis

you should probably take it out (or comment it out) for now. (You can edit it back in later). If you see any other entries that have cl_joystick in them, get them out for now, as well.

That should completely clear out any assignments of any of your rudder pedal controller axis inputs from the MWO Options menu. Restart the MWO Client, then assign the rudder to the "Turn" field, checking to make sure it goes in as j0_rot_z. At this point, you should not see any other assignments appearing in the joystick column of the options menu. Save the change. I recommend that you leave the toe brakes alone until the rudder turn issue is resolved.

Make sure you do not have a Saitek SST profile loaded. In fact, until you get this rudder turn control issue sorted out, I would suggest that you stop the profiler from autoloading at startup, and then reboot your machine.

After all that, give MWO another try. I hope that solves it for you.

CyBerkut, you are a brilliant human being!

I deleted the actionmaps file and turned off the SST software, restarted MWO and carefully set the rudder to turn, and the pedals work! You must have been right. Something in the actionmaps must have been squirly.

Thank you for the great help, and thank you also for your patience and sticking with me to get it right.

Thanks as well to Hammerhai, EvilC and willrndls. I really appreciate your help as well.

I hope to see you guys on the game.

Now all I need is to buy an X52 pro stick and throttle! :)

I'm glad to hear of your success!

If you just want it for MWO, I wouldn't be in all that big of a hurry on getting the X-52 Pro HOTAS, unless you're really wanting it mostly for the throttle. As it stands right now, nearly everyone agrees that using a mouse is better than a joystick.

If you do get one, then be sure to check out EternalCore's thread on making it work as well as can be done.
