First Glance

I find it funny that I have so much less firepower (1/3 the firepower of a Stalker) of an assault mech and I am only 1 class below them. 4 energy hardpoints, 1 missile and 1 ballistic, but not enough room and max tonnage to become really dangerous with these slots.

Trials on the Battlefield

I tried a 2 medium laser, srm 6, ac/2 build but find it hard to get a good weapon fire rotation down. A more skilled pilot than me would be more dangerous for sure.

I am currently running a 4 medium laser layout with an LRM 10 and AMS. I feel good fighting at about 250 meters and with the amount of heatsinks I can put in I can fire the lasers almost continually forever alternating 2 at a time, but this makes me feel like I should just get rid of 2 lasers since I'm only firing 2 at any given time, except when trying to land a killing blow.

I've got all the basics mech tree unlocked. The top speed is excellent and with torso twist I can handle light mechs that try to circle me really well.

However I've learned that jack-of-all trades mechs aren't for everyone, and way harder to pilot than something like a LRM boat. Picking and choosing battles is key. Since the LRM 10 fires and reloads pretty quickly I find myself just firing that and staying distant most of the time, which makes me wish sometimes that I just had an LRM boat I would be absolutely obliterating people.

Conclusion

The hero bonus is nice, when you win. The highest dmg match I did so far was about 518 on this mech, with about 200 being the average. Of course it isn't all about damage. Drawing enemy assault mech fire and leading them into your own assaults and trapping them is one key way to win fights with the Flame.

Overall I'm a little displeased at the role it pushes you into (support for assaults usually), lack of firepower, and as always its hard to have successful battles without an ECM on your team, even with proper use of cover, but that is another topic of course.

Speed is what the dragon is all about, not firepower. Its never been meant for 1 to 1 brawling. There are better porpositions if you want brawling. Use if for conquest modes. Assaults are sitting ducks.

There's only 2 builds so far that works best for flame:

1. AC20 + 4 ML
2. 4 LL

These two builds with the biggest engine you can fit them with allows you to quickly get into position behind all assaults and heavies and tear up their rear armor within seconds.

The best build for flame is LBX10, 4x ML, SRM6. Engine 350 XL. Ac20 build is for mainstream noobs who can't handle the mech and 4 LL is wasteful on him.
