Uh no. When the torso goes the arm goes with it. So you get to keep 2 lasers at most. And if youre keeping your hunch turned away from them, youre not shooting any of your torso ballistics at them... which is the whole point of the 4G. So thats not a solution. A better solution is just not to use a 4G because its awful. The 4SP gives you a more damaging loadout and the weapons are spread out across your mech.

4G = AC/20 + 3 lasers = 35 damage
4SP = SRM6x2 + 4 lasers = 50 damage

And no the Dragon can't mount two SRM6s... so anyone saying a Dragon can have the same loadout as a Hunchback is just wrong. Sure it can have the same loadout as one of the BAD hunchbacks but not the same loadout as one of the GOOD ones. For the Dragon to have decent hardpoints it would either need to be able to equip dual UAC/5s or dual SRM6s and currently no variant of the Dragon can do that. Some of the Dragons like the 5N could also use one less ballistic and one extra energy hardpoint as well.

Dragon without decent hardpoints? Have you played one yet or just mess around in the mechlab programs?

I'll take your comparison

Your 4G with Ac20 and x3 med lasers. Dmg = 35
I'll put up a Mad Dragon with has one more med laser and 2 more tons of armor. Dmg: 40

Your 4SP with 2 sixpacks and 4 mediums (which, btw, I also own and pilot). Dmg = 50
I'll put up a Thunder Dragon with Gauss, 4 mediums, and a sixpack. Also with 2 more tons of armor, and the advantage of picking at you from range while closing in. Dmg = 50.

It's a matter of perspective, playstyle, and skill.

There is no denying that Hunchbacks do indeed have advantages over the Dragon, such as having more actual hardpoints than a Dragon could ever dream for. But the Dragon is much more diverse and can produce weapon loadouts that the Hunchy cannot always match up with.

Almost any decent loadout I've seen on a Dragon requires an XL engine.
You can make some amazing Hunchback builds with just Standard engines.

I heard that it's ok on a Dragon because their side torsos are "so small and hard to hit". I took peoples word on this because, hell, I don't have it in my mechbay to check.

However, the other day I was trying to rip the arms off a Dragon with my 4P. To be safe I started aiming for his shoulders instead of the lower arms.
Turns out that counts as a side torso hit... at least according to the target info and the quick explosion after I cored him.

I have no doubt Dragons can be good, and often underestimated... but I'm really loving my Hunchies.
I'll still give the Dragons a shot eventually, but for now I'm happy with what I got and don't really fear many Dragons in the field.
*shrug*

To be clear, I'm not really taking sides. I now Dragons can be really dangerous.
Not really sure the two can be exactly compared though.

Too many pages to read everything. I love my hunchies (mostly the 4SP and the 4P) and I love my Flame and DRG-1C. Both chassis have some variants that just kinda suck, at least for my play style. But the hunchie does have some definitive advantages over the dragon. All the dragons except the Flame have their ballistic slots in the right arm, which means only 9 crit slots for ballistics. No double UAC 5. No AC 20. No trip AC5 (yeah I've done it lol).

When played properly, the hunchies are very potent. I've topped damage and kills with my 4SP more than a couple times.

I've considered what you've said about the dragon, and I've concluded that you're absolutely full of ****.

The Dragon is so, so, so, so, SO GROSSLY underestimated it makes me want to cry. The Dragon is one of the most versatile mechs in the game. [...]
I just want to say that I ******* love my Flame out of my tons of other Mechs (even the Atlas), and I do very, very well in it [...]

FLAME hero mech is a good Dragon, true.
But not on par (at all) with "standards" Dragons.

It's like saying ALL HBKs are insane death dealers, when you're piloting a "dual AC20" HBK-IIC in "berzerker" mode...

Mmmmmh... an HBK-IIC could be a great "hero" mech.... No ?

10 extra tons and a different weight class.
That's like starting a thread over how much better an atlas is compared to a Phract or jenner.
