Well, I'm liking the look of the Spider. I know I'll be getting one. I fear, however, this will be the be all and end all of "lag shielding". As a ballistics fan, I do not fancy fighting them, so might as well join them! However, the piddly loadouts look to be balancing things out. I hope.

What's everyone else thinking? Will the weight and weapon restrictions screw the mech over, and it'll actually be a steaming pile of faeces? Or will the speed make it invincible? Or both? Or neither!?

I know I'll be picking up a spider at some point in the near future. Zombie that thing with 2 medium lasers and it will be one of the most annoying mechs ever.

Who knows, maybe I'll strip it of all weapons, toss on an AMS, rest of the tonnage into AMS ammo, and jump into LRMs volleys for my team mates!

The spider is just a way worse commando that trades streaks and ecm for weak jumpjets. The best part is that its energy weapons are torso mounted so it cant even shoot down when its jumping. This mech is going to be totally useless.

The only way I can see the Spider being useful is if they fix jumpjets, add directional thrusting, give the Spider ECM, and give it at least 4 hardpoints.

I have high hopes for the wee Spider. It's as close to the lovely Wasp as we might get, save an urbanmech invasion of HG headquarters to liberate the copywrite files.

The hardpoint number/location for the stock loadouts are the big issue (the quintessential variant having a mere 2x energy in the CT and nothing else) which, if not backed up by blatant non-canon hardpoint locations(ie, adding arm hardpoints), may leave most Spider variants off the playing field.

Sounds like my kind of mech!

I am so making a tag laser AMS zombie build.

I was under the impression that the game still capped speed at 140kph or so due to netcode issues, in which case, it won't be faster than the fastest mechs already in game. It's potentially very impressive at jumping, though, so if the devs sort out JJ to coincide with its release it might have some kind of niche at least.

Also, have the hard points been confirmed anywhere? I know the default layouts, but it might have a couple of *spare* hard points like the HBK 4G maybe? If it doesn't I can't see this mech being competitive.

Depending on how cozy the cockpit look I might get one. Cockpit is main reason I purchase a mech.

Its not faster anyway. It goes the same speed as a Cicada. So it tops out at 151 or so.

Well, the good news is, after the 15th we can go back to looking forward to mechs that are actually worth a damn! :P

It has jump jets, that'd have to be a really big bathtub...

Maybe, to reverse the stereotype, with enough jump jets it could jump out of bounds and off the edge of the world...

Unless they give all the variants arm hardpoints and the directional jumpjets, the spider might as well be a less powerful flea...

I liked the spider in TT due to its speed and physicals.
In MWO, it loses all speed advantage and cannot perform physical attacks.

I suppose if they fixed the Raven and gave the Spider similar hitbox issues and ECM it may see some limited playtime, but without missle ports, probably not.

Spider will likely come with the fixed netcode. And if it doesn't the netcode will not be far behind. I have high hopes for the Spider but will not likely buy one (not that I dislike it) but instead I'm waiting for the Flea. Who knows, I love lights so I may get both :P

I know I am getting both. Especially if they manage to buff MGs to a useful state, it'll be fun rides both of 'em.

I'm looking at the pictures here:

http://mwomercs.com/...t/spider/sdr-5d

it doesn't look like they gave it any different hard points than what's currently in the TT game.

Now could be pleasantly surprised and those two CT mounted energy points could be in the Side torsos, but it doesn't look like it.

SDR-5V - 2 Energy Hard points (1 RA, 1 CT)
SDR-5K - 1 Energy Hard points (CT) 2 Balaistic Hard points ( RA, LA)
SDR-5V - 2 Energy Hard points (CT)

I love the spider in TT but with the above information it's going to make it very hard to love at all.
