So whether you realized it or not, MW4 introduced heat spread to most energy weapons. The idea behind heat spread is simple, it lowers the heat spike when firing an all energy alpha without actually reducing the amount of heat so energy boat mechs can remain combat operational for longer periods. Heat spread time varied from weapon to weapon and between mods, but and all of them, they produced 50% of their labeled heat on firing, and for a short period, created the remaining heat.

So for example, let's say I have a 3 PPC build with 20 DHS, my max heat is ~64 and my dissipation is 3.4. So if PPCs had a heat spread time of 3.0 sec (it's whole recycle time). When I fire, rather than putting me at around 45% on my scale, it only puts me at 19%. The next 3 secs I may gain a couple % on my heat scale, but for the most part for 3 seconds after firing PPCs, I hover at the 23% mark.

This is handy for mechs that generate 40+ heat in an alpha, but after a second or so shutdown, have already dissipated enough heat to be below the 80% mark.

I'm not sure energy boats honestly need it, but considering the constant complaints about the high heat weapons of the LL and PPC families, I figured this might help outside of lowering the heat outright.

tl;dr Heat spread would give energy boats longer operational periods, but longer shutdown periods as well, so you don't have to deal with override.
