Is the "@ui_" part just a place holder for the merc corp name? Or is that a mistake?

Well, it shows the "@ui-Merccorps on mine and the Liao flag for some bloody reason.... so pro.

Yes. Their scaleform flash interface uses @<variablename> as placeholders. Here's an example of what the UI looks like when none of the variables are populated:

Well, looks like everyone has that bug. I'm Merccorps on the forums, in game it says @ui_merccorps and shows LIAO flag...fail.

From the gamefiles. There are lots of old and unused UI elements in there. This one dates from June 1st, I believe.

Looks like all of the icons/factions are mixed up. Most faction's show the right name for me, but a rasalhague-symbol.

My hub now displays a pilot picture, which has always been blank and the faction line now properly says House Davion instead of Lonewolf but the faction picture is Marik...
