I've got the Jenner Founders, the Wang and the Ilya.

I was holding out for an assault hero mech.. but im getting bored.. Is the Flame different enough from the Ilya to warrant a purchase? Right now it just looks like another heavy.

No... the catapult is another heavy and it is totally different from the Cataphract.

The Dragon does not appear to have the same difference from the cataphract.

Flame is the only mech that can carry an AC20 + 4ML and run around at above 105kph. It is also the only mech that can carry 4 large lasers and run above 105kph.

If you want something "different," get the Fang.

How is the Fang "different"? Its simply an upgraded 5N that replaces a single (rather useless) ballistic point on the arm for one laser point on the left torso. This means 2 small ballistic weapons on the arm up to the max of AC10, not even AC20. It brings nothing new to the table even though I do enjoy it and run it with 3 Large Pulse Lasers, which I could also do on a Flame...

The Ilya is a ballistic-boatin' slow moving heavy.

The Flame is speed demon with arm laz0rz.

How is it you cannot see the difference?

themoob is right. I have both Flame and Ilya and they are both my fav mechs now. Ilya is all about slow boombastic ballistic play and Flame is mostly about FAST FAST FAST laser play... in fact, you could look at Flame as an oversized light mech on steroids and Ilya as an undersized assault.

(ER)PPC in the shoulder for superior sniping (there is no better hardpoint location on any other mech for sniping, not even the K2 which has to expose nearly it's entire body, and energy is superior to the Flame gauss in this build, read on), AC/10 in the right, 2x med pulse in the left, XL280, nearly full armor. You've got every range covered, and can brawl. That's not my favorite build, but one of the more interesting ones.

Not when you have an AC20 on the Flame instead of a gauss or AC10. Flame's AC20 beats Fang's ERPPC by a mile anyday... also, Fang isn't the only mech with torso mounted energy point... even the dragon 1N can do that... again, not an unique setup.

Flame with AC20 + 4 ML = 40 firepower

Fang with AC10 + ERPPC + 2 MPL = 32 firepower

similar ballistic + energy setup but with a far smaller alpha and much higher heat output. On top of that, juggling with 3 different weapon types is always less effective than just juggling 2. See? That's the problem with the Fang... there's nothing it can do that other dragons cannot and there's nothing you can do that you cannot do better on a Flame.

I know we're talking hero mechs, but speaking of oversized, I like gallivanting around in my "oversized-medium" AWS-9M at 86.9kph or whatever is. Hella firepower, hella speed, hella armor.

I'm not really talking about oversized here... AC20 isn't oversized for a Flame. In fact, AC20 + 4ML weighs less than a 4 Large Laser setup. I am talking about the unique possibilities that a hero mech bring to the table. Without that uniqueness, all you are buying really is just paintwork which you can't change and cbill boost... which in the case of the OP, I don't think that's what he needs since he/she already has other hero mechs.

Since when does an AC/20 beat an ERPPC for sniping? Like I said, the Fang build has every range covered with a suitable weapon.

Maybe a 200m sniper contest.

They are like night and day.... One you can have a Guass with med lazers, the other you can have 2 Guass with med lazers.

I really enjoy my Fang.
I run with 2 medium lasers, ERPPC, LB-10, SRM6 with and XL300

I enjoy the LB-10 because I just run around fast spamming it.
