Howdy Folks,
I learned about this game from reading about in PC Gamer, Feb 2013. It was a game play review by Chris Thursten, by the way.
Moving along...
I played a little BattleTech back in the late 80's, '88 - '89, to be exact. And I loved it! So imagine my delight upon learning about MWO. And just in time too: I built a new Gaming Rig less than a month ago.
Stoked!
I know I have a lot to learn but I wanted to say "Hi" and, "Watch your heat!"

Howdy! First Post!

Welcome!
As someone that was a fairly avid player of the table top game, I will warn you that you should drop any preconceived notions you have of mech builds. I grew up loving the Warhammer, and pounding away at range with it's twin PPCs. But as this is a real-time game and not a turn based simulation, there are some things to keep an eye out for.
The biggest is heat. It was always a problem in TT, but it's even more so here. Weapons fire faster, so high-energy weapons like the PPC tend to overheat very quickly. You can't just use 10 heat sinks to dissipate that heat anymore, and if you aren't careful (please don't just mash away at the buttons) you'll shut down in no time fast.
Another is armor - they doubled the values to extend the game. Still a lot of fun, but some preconceived notions (a Gauss will take a head off in one shot) don't apply anymore.
It is a fantastic game, and I am thoroughly hooked, but I did find that some of my old "the way things work" ideas didn't carry over.
