The pilots are awful. I can't win anything or ever survive a match because my teammates are either cowards or have no grasp of tactics. What I keep running into is everyone spots the enemy then stops and never closes for melee. They just sit back and get pounded by the lrms and then the rush comes and they cannot handle it. They just bug out and fire randomly at random targets. I try to help morons that run out by themselves sometimes but that always ends up with us dying cause they can't seem to focus their fire on one target. I want to play this game but I am never on a team that knows how to strategize or you know, engage the enemy. Very disappointing.

Find less random people to play with. Mic not necessarily required.

.
Maybe try using the ingame Team (text) chat to coordinate with them better..??
.
Also, what Mech do you pilot, because I can tell you, everyone likes to "FOLLOW" the Assaults, and disregard what the Light Mechs do or say, unless they are spotting.

There are ways to get a PUG working together; they aren't foolproof and depend on which exact Lone Wolves you were (un)fortunate enough to drop with.

In all Online Games, you either find a group to play with that has competent and/or like-minded players, or you spin the roulette wheel of the PUG and hope for the best.

Sometimes, you get a group that knows what they are doing. Other times, you get the guy(s) who for whatever reason just can't or won't truly work with the team.

To pug, or not to pug, that is the question:
Whether 'tis Nobler in the cockpit to suffer
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous ECM,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of trial mechs,
And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
The Pug-ache, and the thousand Natural shocks
That Pilot is heir to?

Who's more at fault... soldiers with no direction or leadership or someone who possesses the will and the means to give direction and leadership who fails to provide neither? :)

Remember: You can lead a horse to water but i'll be damned if I can figure out how to get it to fire a PPC.

Just make some friends and join a voice chat server and lay as a group. Even 2 playing in tandem is better than having your, uh, legs and arms, yeah thats it, arms and legs, handed to you.

Anyway there are TS servers that pick up players to fill groups of 4.

Make friends, join a group, join a team and enjoy the fruits of some team work.

Oh, and I feel ya pain. Good luck.

Remember... Closing to melee is not always the answer. There are mechs who don't want to be in close (LRM-boats, etc). There is the question of how to focus fire and whether or not you have to go through a nasty kill-zone to close. Rushing without talking to your team is *never* the answer since it means spreading out and closing to the enemy at the same time which just allows them (even provokes even the bad teams) to concentrate fire on the mech in the front putting you at a disadvantage.

Find a group of pilots you like and get together in a clan. Suggest tactics through in-game chat. Watch your allies and actually stay close and support one another from cover. Lots of possible solutions have been suggested here.

There's no way for you to get pounded from range unless you're standing in the open or they have a spotter lighting you up in which case you can kill said spotter without leaving cover (if he can see you then you can see him) and with focused fire which should be your ideal in the first place.

You either have be really good or really lucky if you are expecting to live while pugging, ideally you want to be both. These days just follow the fatlas with ECM and pray. Throwing out a simple plan does help as well along with agreeing with any plan someone else proposes. The exception being taking the tunnel in Frozen City, how I hate it when they say they are going to the tunnel.

Overall pugging is not for the faint of heart. If you have a fragile ego hop onthe TS server find a 4 Man and face roll. Though not as interesting it is a crap load less frustrating.

This is a team/guild oriented game, always has been. I suggest you join a unit to limit your aggrevation doing pugs.

So far, the skill gap between players in the game is the widest ive ever seen.

I know some very, very good pilots.

Ive also seen some players that can literally not hit a damn thing. Sometimes they survive the whole match or die last and accumulate less than 50 damage.

You should be able to try from the multitude in http://mwomercs.com/...e-chat-servers/ until you find a community/group that you like.

Separate the pugs from the premades, or balance the pugs so there are one premade on each side, and things get much better.

This game now is like a boxing match, where one side is allowed to bring in swords, while the other side may have never thrown a punch before. The lack of balancing is almost mind numbingly stupid on PGI's behalf.
