Just focus on the targets that don't have their cheat enabled. I usually simply ignore light mechs, they are a waste of ammunition and heat. For all those missed volleys and beams you can easily down a medum or heavy mech instead.

I have never, in roughly 800 OB drops and likely that many or more CB drops as mostly heavy or assault, been owned by a light mech because of lag shield. Have I been killed by light mechs? Yes, often as a snipe, when I'm double-teamed, or when I have isolated myself against a pilot who's good at staying behind me. However, not once have I died because I couldn't hit the opponent due to lag shield. Why is that? It's because I realized a long time ago that the cursor turning red indicates the hitbox. When you find that spot, you know where to aim. It's really that simple.

I'm not saying this to brag about my performance. I'm saying this to offer some advice to those who may not routinely do this in the hopes that it levels the playing field for you.

Does the lagshield need to be fixed? Absolutely, but there's a workaround until it is. It may not completely make up for the bug, but it sure makes them seem a whole lot less invulnerable.

Show the Raven 3l's how much of a man you are and disconnect before they can kill you. They don't deserve the kill!

One lagging Raven is bad enough.. but to see so many 3 and 4 man teams dropping with them, well, its just amazing that so many will blatantly exploit broken mechanics and then tell others "Learn to play noob!".

So you've never seen the crosshair turn red when lag shooting and the Raven puppet model not registering any damage what so ever? Never seen the AC , PPC, Gauss rounds "hit" and crosshair get red and no damage register on a raven? I have - much too often, that's why I don't even try any more.

Yes, it can happen. It's more rare, but it can happen. When it does, I simply fish for the spot where I see their paper doll flash damage and then make a mental note of it. Yes, that's annoying too, but it's not impossible to deal with.

For what it's worth, I have tried seeing how the other half lives by trying out my own ECM Raven. I have to say that even adjusting for tactics, I don't get *nearly* as many kills and I have definitely been taken out by plenty of gausses, PPC's, AC20's, etc. even when I'm at 125 KPH. It's not the mech that creates the magic bullet. It's the mech + client/server lag. I play at very low ping, so I suspect it's not that hard to hit my Raven for someone who is actually able to line up the shot.

Ultimately, I'm just not a light mech pilot. It's not my style.

Real warriors of the light use Jenners.

Finally mastered all of my Jenners. Solo pugging I have a 1 win to 2 loss ratio. After experiencing a 2*4person premade vs our solo's I decided to try out the raven3l. The difference is like night and day. I now win 3/4 matches with a newb mech. The rubberbanding is gone and I can easily solo any other light mech out there except for other 3l pilots with more xp..

I play all weight classes... unfortunately my ping is too low for a lag shield. Just once, I'd like to be invincible. heheh

Do what I do. SWEEP THE LEG!

Been doing this more recently and while it can be tricky to do sometimes it's so satisfying. I've had light pilots complain about it but all I do is laugh.

As a light pilot i hate it...but its a valid tactic..as some shed leg armor to make that extra streak fit.
If i see a light with low leg armor i'll leg em...can't blame others for doing the same...but i still do.

Wrong. Real warriors of the light use Commandos without ECM

You know what? I never really truly observed the destructiveness of the lag shield until today. I've had plenty of brawls vs a light mech while I'm in something heavier and lag shooting was pretty minor. And it could go either way depending on my aim.

Today I was second to last to die and observed our lone Commando vs the remaining 3 mechs (1 Atlas, 1 Flame, 1 Cent). Mind you my ping was ~110 and this Commando's was ~40, and I watched him via spectator, and it was like a strobe light nothing was smooth on his end and his speed was only something like 110kph. And you know what he did (he already had a kill under his belt when I popped but he was lightly damaged) he Streaked the crap out of the poor Atlas barely getting hit, the Cent may as well have not been there since he just stood on the cap (literally no evasion) and didn't fire at the Commando, so he was obviously going to die, then vs the Flame which was pretty quick, they danced around the map, the Commando long using up its Streaks he killed this Flame, from ~80% health with his small laser, the only thing he had left. And the only thing the Commando had to show for it? A yellow left torso and arm. It was pretty unbelievable, the match summary showed this pilot was second in damage only to our Atlas...

yea, with the last minipatch it´s even got more ridicolous, sit in your raven and try it :D

Thanks, OP. After all, flying into a rage on the Internet is always the best way to get things done. Try this one - tell them you wanna kick in their doors and beat them up. That one always got me going in the old chatroom days...

The lag shield is worse in this game than in mechwarrior 3... That's extremely sad. That's what happens when you give the net code job to some 12 year old fresh out of school.

Uranium...

...if it was a 12 year old fresh out of school working on the net code that'd be like, the Doogie Houser of game nedcoders.

That'd be hella boss.

Real warriors kills any enemy mechs he encoutered, including lag shields powered lights.
In other words - learn to shoot.

OR, PGI could fix the net code, so we don't have to literally shoot at invisible ghosts. Go away.
