All the infos about TAG I have found are months old. LRMs have been nerfed/buffed/changed several times in the last months, so I would like to know how things work now?
I play a 4LRM20+Artemis mech. Adding a TAG would give me any benefit? Some talk about faster target acquisition. Others talk about missiles spreading less. Other swear TAG is only for lancemates and has no effect on the carrying mech.
So, what is true? How does TAG really work? Thanks.

TAG is effective for everyone including the carrier.
It speeds target acquisition for streaks and LRMs.
I'm not certain on the tighter spread.
It can counter ECM, unless the ECM mech is close enough to effect you directly.
I use TAG on my Stalker, it can be a life safer.

TAG does increase the accuracy, but only if you have the target in line of sight. The real benefit for you, as an LRM boat, is to be able to target things under an ECM bubble (again, only if they are in line of sight, if you are not already jammed, and if they don't move out of your beam).
TAG is vital for LRM boats these days, in my opinion, but it's not a magic wand that negates ECM. It situational at best, but when you find yourself in such a situation without a TAG (say, a DC bearing down you from 750 meters without cover), you'll be kicking yourself.

It has a 750m range. Once you hold it on target youll get an additional icon above the targeting square, you will lock on faster and i think missiles will impact in a tighter pack.
ECM cloaked mechs can be locked/targeted and fired upon if you TAG them from 180m +.
TAG will not work when you are inside an enemy ECM bubble (180m).
Its essential on LRM heavy builds.
Edit: Take this! Its dangerous to go alone!

nice, but is TAG effect instantaneous? I mean: I always fire all LRM at once. Should I fire TAG BEFORE firing the LRMs, or is it ok to put everything in the same firegroup, firing TAG and LRMs at once?

Do you have to hold the beam on the target until the LRMs hit, or just long enough to get a "lock"?

You want to fire TAG before your LRMs as it can take a second for the effect to show up, and you want to hold TAG on your target for as long as humanly possible.
