I'm starting this topic because of something I recently realized.
I was browsing the available cockpit items to see if anything worthwhile has turned up.

While I recognize that aesthetics is mostly a question of personal taste... i think we can all agree that there is something missing amongst all the christmas lights, new year champagnes and dropships.
Have a quick look at the address bar on your browser, chances are it reads mwoMERCS,
and the militaristic theme is what I find to be lacking in the visual upgrades department.

Then it struck me, why not use the simplest solution: morale patches.
You could place them anywhere in the cockpit, they can be as big and small as you need them to be, you can make them as complex as you need - simple flat texture, or a bump-mapped plate with bells and whistles.
Here's some examples:







Admit it, a hula girl is nice and all, but something about these things just screams "put me in your cockpit nao!".

Of course, they would need more Mechy stuff in them, but that's not really a problem now is it?


And starting from that, the possibilities are endless. You can even use it to involve the community

(o) Custom patches as awards for winning or participating in events.
(o) Custom patches for clans to feel smug about
(o) Weekly forum design-a-patch contest

And best of all, a half-competent graphics artists can crank these babies out with both hands tied behind his back.

Preemptive answer to the inevitable: "you son of a silly person, they should focus on fixing the netcode instead" posts

a ) actually, graphic artists are in no way involved in the netcode, something we should be thankful for.
b ) if it gives them more monies to play with, they can use it to buy additional pylons moar network programmers
c )or they can just buy a new Ferrari for everyone. Morale improves, productivity soars.
