I love that they are giving us verities within the maps... But something still feels off about River City Night. I don't know if its the fact that a city has no real lighting going on at night... Or if its that night vision somehow feels off on this map? I find myself almost exclusively using thermal vision as its easier to see with than night vision.

Again, I love the verity but this night map is by far my least favorite map of all of them. What we need is maybe those that have narc pods can also get for free the ability to use a one time per match (option) to launch a flair on night maps that will linger over 1 grid space for IDK... 5 minutes?

I'm not a fan of it. Night vision is not that good there and in the heat of battle I'm forced to use my thermal view.

I guess that's my point... There is hardly any light in the city and the night vision seems overdone. The night vision is so bright. I would expect it to be that bright in a better lit environment but its just too bright on this map I think. Yeah I know night vision works on picking up light from things like the moon and so on but still... The complete darkness to blinding night vision is just one extreme to the next and don't mesh well together on this map

It's the lack of mech headlights. Mech's need headlights that toggle on and off.

I dislike river night, but only because it gives me the heebie-jeebies to have my vision hampered like that. I actively dislike thermal vision, and the night vision works well enough to keep me tense. So I guess that actually makes it a good level.

Thermals probably need their range brought in, since right now there's no reason to use night vision until you get within like 300 meters. It would be interesting if they were swapped, so night vision goes out further but obviously doesn't have the contrast that thermal has. Then let thermal be good only within say 500 meters.

Anything under 300 meters on RCN, I just hit my (.) to turn off my inside cockpit lighting and can see everything without either night or thermal vision.

It's probably my favorite map. But night vision needs refinement, no reason to use it over heat vision as buildings shine too brightly.

I just wish I could set thermal as a default so I would not have to turn it on at the start of every mission on every map.

for me the issue is that the map and terrain is dark... yet the sky it relatively lit up

so it doesn't seem to be a darkness or nighttime effect, it's more that the map is just blacked out making it hard to see therefore use nightvision

to me the sky need to be dark and the city need subtle ambient lighting yet still be dark... ie streetlights, some window lights in buildings... or do lighting from a single point, ie moonlight and have a lot of shadows cast about etc.

It's not that...here's my two cents on River night...

First...I can get it if there are absolutely NO LIGHTS in the city. You can pretend that the proviso governing body turned off all of the lights for fear of their buildings and town be ruined and because the opposing force ordered them to turn off all of the lights. What really gets me however is that the sky is still clear. There should be clouds when you look up into the sky blocking moonlight OR it should be a world with NO MOON whatsoever and thus you are on the dark side of the planet and the clouds further restrict the light to barely anything.

I once went down to Central America during the equatorial shift where the area was in transition and it was night time with no moon out. I have to tell you, when it gets dark down there...it gets DARK. Like you can't see 5 feet in front of you. It's freakingly disturbing for someone who lives either farther north or farther south of the equator because you're used to some type of light. So I get it when the DEV's make it that dark. But if that's the case, there should be clouds to further obscure light on River night map to give it a reason why it's so dark.

Maybe it's just me. It could be on a different world with different properties. It's...unnerving to be on that map with it being so dark.

But the night vision while I like the idea, it's too damn bright and I can't adjust it to dim the night vision so there isn't that night vision glare it gives off. And heat vision is just the same. It's too damn in your face bright. If there was a way to alter the vision on both heat vision and night vision, I'd love it and would be using it to alter brightness so I could tailor the glare down.

Yes I had to turn up brightness level to make NV barely useable on that map.By doing this of course it "Washes" out the color on the other maps ,but I guess I have to do this as you cant deselect maps you dont want to play just game modes

Night vision is wrong. Look at the sky. It's black :\. Yet unlit buildings bloom like a *****.

I quite like River City Night and the night vision. Sure, it takes a little getting used too and I can play it without if I have to, but most matches I just turn it on and then forget it is even there. Heat vision is not my thing though.

It may be a good idea to make the intensity of NV adjustable in game. As for more maps with different degrees of darkness and visibility, I think we will get those but they should be the exception, not the rule. Or be optional, but that would then require a version of the match maker that I only see in a far, far future.

I sometimes cringe when this map comes around, I have done more accidental friendly fire to teammates on this map than any other.. Thermal blobs in front of other thermal blobs can make hitting the right target harder.

The problem is that there's something off with the way that Night-Vision behaves. All the super-bright blooms (the white parts you see while using night vision) come off of surfaces that usually the darkest in the area. This is not how night vision works! If you were to look at a light (or a surface reflecting light) while night vision is active you should get a bloom (ie: be blinded a bit).

The night vision needs to be fixed so that the dark surfaces do not cause bloom essentially. The current in-game night vision is not behaving the way that real night-vision does.

I do think thermal is to good compared to other vision modes. I end of using it the majority of the time, on every map but caustic. and even caustic i will use it some times. Which is a shame because its the least interesting mode for graphics. There have been a few times on river city night where i have switch to normal mode during battles, just to enjoy the graphics.

as for the lack of ambiant lights, im pretty sure the city is deserted and likely the power girds are shutdown. so there really should not be much atcive light in the city.
