Why Does Everyone Have Such Bad Ping?

I feel like I'm the only one in the game without a lagshield when it comes to being ingame, maybe because I live in Toronto, but my ping is consistently 10-13, while everyone else?

I'd say 90% of the matches I've played have been against 200-400 ping players, with maybe 10% of the players having under that, and 5% having reasonable (10-50) ping.

Why so?

I dunno. I seem to play against 34.5432% with lower than 50 ping while 28.8645726% have a ping 200+. Weird, I know.

Well, Battletech is fairly popular in Europe. So likely many players "across the pond" with understandably high pings.

There are probably a lot of (loser) players who are manipulating their bandwidth to Win. These guys are real winners, I'm sure they are proud of themselves.

I doubt the latter is "an epidemic" but is probably more common than we think. I know I tested running a Commando with and without downloads going in the background, and it did seem to have an effect, though I'm sure my testing method is a pale comparison to any true "ping throttling" or whatever that might be used as a cheat.

I always have 30-40 ping and everyone else has it in the hundreds. Once saw a guy with 9 ping. Lucky duck. I have no idea what makes others pings so high, unless they're all in Europe or the bottom left corner of the US!

They seem to have fixed something on the Netcode.

I am in Germany, before ECM Patch i had solid 120-130ms Ping. Day and Night.

After ECM introduction the Ping went up to 140-150ms Nighttimes.

Now it is again 120-130ms Nighttimes.

So they did something for the netcode, but not the BIG hurray.

I live on the West coast of USA and have about a 50-75ms ping generally.

Ive noticed the high pings too and its much much more common now then I remember. I routinely see groups of players with pings over 300.

Its pretty popular in Russia too.
Myself and many others are playing from Australia, we still have to use kangaroos to deliver network packets.
Eagerly awaiting servers and I'm also feeling somewhat guilty for disadvantaging my team (because I don't play a Raven).

Today I saw a hunchbank warping around and he had a ping just over 100. Pretty sure it was intentional...

You can usually tell who you're playing with by the ping times:
Sub-50: Canadians
50-100: Americans
100-200: Europeans
200-300: Russians
300+: Asians or Australians

I live in Moscow. My ping is usually between 125-250, depending on the day and the amount of network traffic. I don't do anything to manipulate my ping.

If I'm lucky and on a really good day, I have a ping of 150 - 160 so about 12x that of the OP, usually though its more around 400 - 600. I don't know whats going on but it goes up and down during the match like crazy.

Maybe today it was even more extreme because of the patch, but I just don't know what to do about it any more. Hitting lights has become an impossibility for me since a while now, so I just try to ignore them or not go against a light 1 vs 1 (which obviously is unavoidable sometimes because immediately the lights notice I can barely hit them).

Hm. So it looks like it has the problem of being an international thing...

Is it common to be hitting a Cataphract in the torso four or five times with an AC20 before being killed by said Cataphract by nothing but medium lasers?

This guy had like 600 ping (Is the SS button PrtScrn?), and kept talking in Portuguese.

If the BRs move here, I'm out instantly. That's all I need to say.

S!

My ping is around 130-150ms and pretty steady, playing from northern Europe. Used to these pings as Aces High II has servers in Texas and ping was around 170ms and fully playable. Can't help the distance to MWO server..

Because many / most players are from Europe. Of course you may ask why there are no plans for a european server then, which makes sense when you assume they'd like to satisfy their largest user base. Indeed...and it is a good question. Bye. ;)
