I did a semi-quick search on this, but I'm not sure if this has been answered yet.
When any of the interviews mentions training your pilot in certain skills, such as specializing in Light 'Mechs, I got to wondering, will each player only be able to do this with a single pilot? The way I read that, it implies that by specializing in Light 'Mechs, you won't be able to specialize in Medium, Heavy, or Assault 'Mechs, or whatnot. But what if we want to try our hand at everything, and are willing to invest the time to do so? Will we have to create a new account for each weight class of 'Mech that we want to use?
Similarly, what about playing for various great houses? Let's say that I decide to fight under the Federated Suns, but if I have a friend who's fighting under the Draconis Combine. Will I be able to create another "pilot" and join the Combine that way, or will I have to resort to creating a new account for that?

Training multiple pilots?

I expect to see something like preferred mech class/chassis and same for weapons, ideally. If you spend months piloting a medium you can't just jump in a heavy and use it's full potential right away.
Rainbows and unicorns below.
So let's say there is unassigned XP pool you get from overall combat effectiveness and some for actual achievemnts that doesn't go anywhere.
This XP flows in the direction of a mech and weapons you currently use.
If you get in a different one it starts to flow away from the former mech class/chassis to current one but not as fast as initial unassigned XP does.
Should not limit expertise too much as if you have mastered a medium mech you have to be reasonably capable of handling heavies and lights. I.e. being linked to adjacent classes.
Also a penalty for different body type (humanoid/bird) would be also cool as they provide somewhat different playstyles.
I should really get on drawing a scheme of this because it sounds very exciting for me.
P.S.: It never made much sense that you have to fully research the same gun for a TD when you have it on a turreted tank already.

It's likely that your house affiliation would be static, but I don't see any reason why you would be limited to only one pilot per account. If you are, there's not really much extra burden on the player to simply creating a second account if you want to play with a different house.
As for your ability to just take any mech and pilot it with equal skill, I doubt it. It sounds like they want there to be character progression/specialization. It may be possible to "re-specialize" your character if you decide you don't like your current layout, but nobody knows what will be involved in doing such a thing. The cost may be in-game cash, it may require real money, or it may be free. On the same line, it may have a long cooldown (preventing respeccing every match) or it may have no cooldown at all.

If referring to WoT, you actually didn't have to... tho depending on how far into the tree you are, you may need to unlock a TD specific engine/tread/etc before you could actually mount it, just wouldn't have to respend the xp to do so...
