I find all kinds of info on mechs from Battletech including info that says they're between 7 to 17 meters (23 to 50+ feet) tall. My question is... how tall should the Mauler be? It's a 90 ton mech... and standard biped. It looks to be roughly 15 meters tall, but I'm wondering if any of you might have any better data than I do on this.

The reason I ask is that I'm going to be working up a 3D model of it and I want to get the dimensions right. Any input on this would be helpful. Perhaps you might know the height of another mech and could infer the height of the Mauler y comparison?

In TT I'd say it's around 13.5 meters tall across the side torsos because it's a wide, somewhat squat design. The Atlas is a touch over 15 meters for reference.

Now in MWO they add 3 meters to the top end making an Atlas around 18 meters tall. Adjust accordingly.

Thanks for the info. That helps a lot. So I figure 16.25 to 16.5 meters tall then for the Mauler in the MWO world... sounds good. That's what I needed.

Commandos are 3 apples tall, right? :)

The Atlas is actually 20 meters tall according to the lore.

Altough it is really damn hard to find any kind of source and once you manage that, every single one states something different, this is the generally accepted version.

Yeah... no. You won't find a single BattleTech source stating an Atlas is 20 meters tall. Now something from Microsoft is very possible. But Microsoft doesn't count.

Thanks to Bishop Steiner for the link. http://bg.battletech...hp?topic=6374.0 (My estimation of the Atlas is actually too tall, but it's based on the 1/60 Armorcast Atlas.)

Also, the topic of scale has been brought up a time or two recently. Plenty of info to read if you're interested.

There was a announcement long ago on which it was said that mechs sizes were changed all across the board, so that terrain would have a bigger strategical impact on gameplay. Can't find it googling now, but pretty sure it was made. Don't know if it was implemented, but if so, mechs on mwo should be about half their size in lore. Can anyone confirm that? I've actually been wondering about that for a while.

Thanks again. Those are interesting reads. I've been going over them and there is a lot of info in there too. Sounds like the 16.5m tall for the Mauler would still be roughly correct.

Well... it matters to me. I'm not PGI, just a guy who's going to build a mech in 3D. So this kind of info is helpful to me.

Just did a test and the Atlas in MW:O is actually ~15.5 meters tall.

Could've sworn I've read about them being 20 m tall.

Yes, they must've made them smaller. It was originally 18 meters according to Bryan: http://mwomercs.com/...post__p__134924

Out of curiosity, how did you conduct your test?

Opened up the in-game assets of MW:O into CryEngine 3 SDK, added an Atlas and used their own pilot scale to make a man tower directly in front of it (not standing on shoulders, mind you, that would mess a bit with the scale). After that I counted the number of those who were completely covered by the Atlas (9 of them), found the NA male human size standard and did simple math. After that, I've compensated for the last few cm that the pilot sclae was too big for (9 men are smaller than an Atlas, 10 are higher) and voila.

I can't tell you how much exactly did they set the height of the man for, but even when going with tallest European numbers (Dutch and their 1.85 m average), you'll get just something a little under 17 meters and I doubt they made the scaling body so high.

CE engines default is metric 1unit = 1M. You could have tried measuring it with the ruler tool. I got ~17.5m. Not including antenna

Excellent. So... maybe 16.5 meters tall for the Mauler is a pretty accurate height (relative to the size of the Atlas) in the game.

If I knew that thing was in in the first place... I have little skill with SDKs, sadly. :)

Could you measure the pilot scale? Just to know what we're on.

yeah something like that.16-16.5m imo. It is 10% lighter than the atlas, but it has pokey uppy missile racks to make it kinda tall looking.

Dunno about PGIs pilot model. I haven;t unpacked it or anything. But CE characters are about ~1.8m tall

Just measured their pilot model. It is too small for precise measuring by the ruler, but rounded it's 2 meters. Probably mostly due to my poor measurement skills, but one thing I think we can agree on is that guy is huge.

Should your measurement be right, then we'e looking at a figure of height between 1.9 and 1.95 meters.
