Here at our Auto shop we have a little saying.

There are 3 options, good, fast, and cheap.

If it's cheap and fast, it won't be good.
If it's cheap and good, it won't be fast.
If it's fast and good, it won't be cheap.

It seems to me, that balance is not in the weapons as many want to believe. Balance is in the entire mech and it's build. In that case, things are not as bad as you might think.

I like fast mechs, so let's apply the same logic as before.

If it's fast and packs a punch, it won't be tough.
If it's tough and packs a punch, it won't be fast.
If it's tough and fast, it won't pack a punch.

There's your balance.

Funny at my old shop we had a saying....

"Pay me now, or pay me a lot more later."

But I didnt do custom work, I did real repairs.

Yea except the thing about sayings is they are only accurate in day dream land within the implied bubble.

What happens when its tough and packs a punch but cant hit anything.

I fail to see what that has to do with anything? BTW, everyone starts out in the repair business, it's how you learn. :)

I have no problem hitting mechs. The only issue I see right now is lag shield, but that doesn't pertain to weapon balance as many are bitching about.

LOL, not much custom work in the Volvo line. Well not in the US anyway.

I did plenty of side work on Nissans and Hondas, even built a 9sec RX7 that still had its 13B Rotary.

Donor miata body + 10k in parts + 5k in labor = 300+hp/ft-lbs in a sub 2500 lb car.

What was that about fast, cheap, good?

I guess if you have to do plugs we can nix the good part >_>

15k is not cheap.

This discussion is so far off track it's ridiculous.

15k for a car that can out-perform most other vehicles on the road? That can hang with xxx,xxx exotics?

Meh, might be a rattle trap of a beer can waiting to fishtail, but for what it does its cheap. Like a Lotus 7 kit car, or a Fobra.

If you had to spend 10k in parts for 300hp, you're doing it wrong.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT? 15k is cheap? No

My $4000 86 944 turbo with less then $2000 in mods and 350hp in a 2500lb car is a "cheap" fast car. 15k is not cheap and getting 300hp for spending that much is laughable.

Not to mention my car is barely considered fast anymore when average sports car are making 400hp plus these days from the factory.

donor miata body - so the 10k is for all the parts not just the engine
for 300hp you are talking new gearbox - possibly an early model miata with the late model 6 speed (same as the RX-8 transmission)

try 2900lbs for a 944

an MX-5 can easily be shed to just over 1000kg (2200lbs) without spending any money on weight saving

Not all 944's are equal, the 86 Turbo models weigh in at <2800lb, which is the vehicle he was referring to.

But in all seriousness, I probably should have worded this thread differently. This is a Mechwarrior forum, this isn't a thread about who has the faster car.

2800 is still quite a bit more than 2500

and anyway, that's an easy question to answer, I do :)

mentioning cars on any non-car forum, particularly anything computer / game related is always a massive mistake :D

Ok, now you got my attention. Claiming to have the faster car without any knowledge of who you are talking to is a strong statement.

So, what is this car you speak of?

I was being sarcastic... or facetious... or both... my 2 are fairly modest all things considered
RX-7, 470bhp, stripped out
VXR8 (Holden Clubsport or Pontiac G8 as you might know them in other countries) with the 2.3L Supercharger running about 580bhp

they are only faster (and still relatively cheap) compared with the ones already mentioned in this thread, if you've got some $50k beast then props to you!

No 50k beast here, I like to do things on a budget.

Latest vehicle was a 450hp MKV GLI, 2.0t DI motor with a GT3071R strapped to it. That project ended early due to a failed con-rod.

Currently piecing together a 91 E30, this is going to be a modest build though, only shooting for 350-400whp.

Nice rides though, I've always had a soft spot for FD rx7's.
