Simple: Award CB/XP

Have commanders make XP/Cbills for giving orders that are followed. How's that? Since the only mechanism for commander's intent is the waypoint, use that.

When a commander lays down a waypoint, then when any player that goes to that waypoint (or some reasonable radius - wider in the case of the "flank around" waypoint) BOTH the commander and the player gain XP/Cbills.

(Note:The commander himself does not count in this regard. That is, he cannot lay down waypoints then visit them himself to gain the bonus.)

This will promote use of the commander function, and will reward following good orders as well as issuing good orders (since crappy ones won't get followed).

Thoughts?

Points for doing what the commander says works assuming what the commander says is sensible. But it would probably be abused by the commander spamming 'walk to this way point 10m from your current position'. Would need some very clever logic to work out if the orders are genuine or not.

What would likely be far more effective is if the commander had a special ability called 'ponifiy' which made a single enemy mech look like a giant My Little Pony. This would then get focused and killed by the team resulting in certain victory.

I had this idea during CB. Something like the way that BF3, with points to award actions that help out team mates or achieve objectives.

The main argument against it was that a lot or premades, using a non in-game VOIP, wouldnt use a command system anyhow, and therefore wouldnt gain the money awarded with each objective. Back then, that did seem unfair. With the current MM system i think it would be more beneficial to 4mans than not.

Nonethless, I think different reward/losses should be implemented for (obvious clan) 8man premades. Would encourage further people to make the leap from 4man teams, and deal with what is essentially the cutting edge of MWO competition.
