Flamers And Crits

Is it really a thing? The wiki says that flamers have a higher chance of causing crits but when I tried it in testing grounds (I can't expect my opponents to stand patiently while I strip armor and burn them) it didn't seem to work.

As I understand it, once all armor is gone weapons can score critical hits and destroy components in that location. So I stripped the armor from the arm of an Atlas and then burned it with my flamer. The medium laser remained fine until the arm itself was destroyed, which defeats the purpose completely.

So am I misunderstanding flamers, the crit system, or something else?

hard to say, but i personally dont recommend trusting the wiki anymore, i know the info on the narc is wrong because it says things like
The tracking strength of the Narc does not stack with the TAG's tracking bonus
then saying things like
Using TAG and NARC together increases missile tracking strength by 75%

so it even goes against it self
