Hi all...its been a while since I posted. For some reason, my new laptop with IE9 has issues with this site and won't let me log in or post, so I have switched over to FireFox for the moment.

Anyway, I have still been working on mechs. The Daishi is at the casters...should be done in a week or so. While that is away, I have been commissioned to work on a few mechs...one being a Victor. This build is based on the MW4 model but as always, I am adding elements from the TRO version. For this build, the arms and parts of the legs will have TRO influence while the rest is from MW4. I am using a Pepakura model provided by BlaaR over at MW3.org.

I snapped some shots of the torso. The squares on the cutting mat are 1"...she will stand about 8.5" when done.

Here is a pic of Dave White's masterful redraw that I am basing my work on.

Nice!

Well, I hope there are a few things you take from the original TRO... like a left hand! I am kinda tired of the stove pipe arms on mechs, but that is just me. The Victor has long been a favorite of mine, so I can't wait to see your finished work!

I am not sure if this will get cast. It is a commission piece...would have to get the customer's permission. I actually want to cast the Flea next. We have hit everyone with some big mechs lately...time for something smaller.

Well if the customer is down with it, let us know, cuz that is one bad boy I would pony up for..... and I think the VTR is popular enough with "Classic" 'TechNerds period to ensure good sales (only the Unseeen are probably more popular)

I e-mailed the customer to see if he is down with it. If so, I will set up a pre-order over on the BMC Blog. However, the regular rules would apply...if I do not get adequate pre-orders, I won't produce it.

If you use the right arm with the Pontiac Autocannon and left arm/hand with external mounted medium lasers from TRO: 3025 it will be truly glorious.

Nice !!

But Is it not an idea to buy and use a 3D printer?
you don't need the different casts, and it seems to me it would be a lot faster/easier, as long as you have the 3D model file, you can reprint it :P

Actually, I know a chap who does mechs on a 3d printer. They can be cost prohibitive to do such large scales. His system runs about $15-$20 per cubic inch...so a light mech in 1/60 scale could run between $120-$150 and that is assuming that everything prints correctly. He recently quoted me $125 for a Whitworth in 1/60....now can you imagine the cost of an assault mech? A Fafnir could come in at $500. And that is for one...to kit it you are talking potentially a couple of thousand $ more. I don't know that any of my customers would pay $150 (or more) for a light mech kit.

But fear not...it is something some of us are exploring.

Nice work on the Victor!

3D printing is probably going to start coming down in price and increasing in availability over the next few years. Only tangentially related, but check this out:

http://conversations...nd-3d-printing/

A silly marketing gimmick to try to get the nerdier/maker crowd into their phones, but I think a sign of things to come.

Cool beans man! I've done the madcat and vulture kits. Easy to build, fun to paint. I wish someday I could figure out how to post pics here and not just links.

Looking good bud. Looks like you`re finding a good balance between the 2 versions.

Alright, the customer has given his blessings to cast this thing...although there will only be 15 made. If you are interested, visit my blog for information. Once the slots are gone, they are gone...and 3 are already spoken for.

Beautiful. About the only "critique" I might make is that (IMO, which is secondary, since I didn't commission yon beasty!), is that the upper dome about the cockpit looks a small bit "conehead-ish). possibly a little more taper in the cockpit bowl and that the AC/20 barrel just feels like it should be a little thicker (maybe a barrel shroud?)

or even....

none of the above... as it still looks pretty damn awesome.... er... victor!
