I’ve been reading a few post here in there and never found any pointing out the obvious “problem” of the game so far. It’s not ECM, not any particular build either.
THE PROBLEM IS THE GROUP SYSTEM.
I know MWO is a team game and all. But it now faces a bigger challenge that will kill the game in the mid term. ITS NOT FUN FOR NOVICE PLAYERS. During prime time at least, it’s terrible. If you pug alone, expect 0:8 all evening as you face team of players.
My solution, that would be an option of matchmaking that should be the default for new players, is to break down groups of players and mix the rooster for each match. On XBOX, Gears of War (the first game) had it’s multiplayer running like that. One lobby with every players, groups and solo guys, where we voted for the next map and when the actual match loaded people were distributed between the teams. Meaning I sometime play with my friends and other times I get to blow them up.
I think that option would solve most of the frustration for the casual gamer with real money to spend and little time to enjoy the game. The balance of power (ECM, Heavy/light, Experience etc) still needs to be balanced of course.
Keep a mode with fixed teams for those who prefer that play type. That is the base of the game after all.
I don't know how many casual gamers are out there. But me as an example, no matter how much I love the MechWarrior universe, I don't have time to waste getting systematically owned during the hour or so I have available after the kids go to bed. I'll just go back to my console or other quick load games.
