Relevant:

It is my opinion that the "Assault" game mode should be scrapped.

When I start a game the first thing I do is set it from "Any" to "Assault Only".

In my experience, Conquest is just like Assault except with 4 bases instead of one, but the rewards make it that anything -but- the complete destruction of the ennemy team is worthless, so why bother?
Conquest only has the (my observation) effect to disperse the action more and take more time for the same outcome.

I avoid assault if I can.
You make more money there, but blowing 3 minutes on my life getting ninjacapped is a buzzkill.

Are you finding a lot of ninjas, Vassago? It happens every now and then when I play but, short of one game last night, most of my PUG teams have the common sense to RTB as a group. Of course, the one time that they didn't, I was on my slow *** Hunchy and couldn't get back in time without getting blown to pieces. Stupid slow Hunchback :D

Yeah I'm seeing far less quickcapping now and people playing to brawl. Smart lights cap down a way then rejoin though but that's ok. They return to find a teammate or two missing usually.

On Conquest, I kind of do the following depending on map and placement:

Frozen City (high side) - go through the cave and back cap their base
Frozen City (low side) - cap Theta

Caustic Valley - cap the left side

Forrest Colony - cap the right side (if it is non-snow, I'll go cave or past the boat and back cap their base)

Lake City - I move with the mass cause it is a **** map with lots of "oh ****, I just ran into a <insert boat>" moments

In summary, Conquest requires that you do more than press your "1" or "2" buttons.
LOL yes you have to stand in one of five squares on the ground for a length of time. Which adds the use of the 'X' button to the list of required skills.

I play a lot of 8 manz. There are enough ninjas there that I don't want to see them in my pub ghetto brawls, or even the typical gold attempts.

conquest, never. You would think they would throw in at least a structure or two... you know, a base. Call it dead all you want , at least LL had bases with walls etc. MWO has lines on the ground..

Had a couple of great 8v8 conquest games Saturday night. First one, we lost by 9 points. I was the last one standing on my team and I had the yellow screen bug. I Shift-F11'd it away and ran w/out any kind of hud. This was on Forest Colony. I had to keep my team mates updating me on when I capped something or not. They had a hell of a firefight along the road. Watching all the ordinance fly was spectacular!

2nd drop was against the exact same team! But on River City. Tactics won the day for us. The other team split their forces, one camping their spawn, the other going for the middle cap point in the water. Had a hell of a furball down there. I was TAG'ing in my Raven at nearly point-blank range for two of our LRM boats in the upper city and we dropped the water lance after a tough brawl. After that it was about mopping them up and chasing ECM Cicadas.

The nice thing about Conquest is you can drop against the same team a few times and start learning each others tactics. I wish it was easier to do that in MWO... do drops against a specific team of 8.

What I don't understand about Assault games are these teams who do a cap rush. The payout isn't worth it. I've more than a few 8v8 games that wind up with nobody firing once and one team getting the same $25k as us and a slight bump in XP. Why? Its a better payday in both XP and c-bills if you lose from brawling than it is to win from just base capping.

I personally prefer Conquest, because it gives me Solaris of sorts. And there are far less premades, so it is ideal for blowing steam off.

And never had a problem getting into one.

Conquest is fine. I have the launch button set to "Any" and I don't notice and huge difference in the number of conquest drops compared to assault drops.

i play on any. im just looking for variety because i dont find any one mode competitive or more fun, thats sad imo. variety isnt so important if the mode can get your bloody pumping due to a struggle. there is very little struggle imo, that is why i play any.

regarding your topic, if many others are like you and me who play "any" then is just dumb luck to not get matched in conquest.

People may have stopped playing conquest because they found it was less profitable than Assault.

If that's the case, they should give it another try. The changes last week really improved things. I only play conquest now. About 40% of the battles are actually won on points instead of destruction. Rewards are almost the same as Assault now as well.

Experiences may depend on the mechs you choose to drive. In my experience, conquest goes much better with faster mechs since you need to capture targets and maneuver more quickly. On the other hand, in assault mode, the goal is typically to blow up the other team and heavy and assault mechs are more prevalent. If most people who play conquest exclusively drop in lights/mediums and fast heavies while those playing assaults exclusively prefer assault mechs/heavies and mediums then someone choosing to randomly drop will find themselves randomly assigned to different kinds of matches depending on their mech. In particular, assault mechs are probably much more likely in Assault matches since most folks would not voluntarily take a slow assault mech on a Conquest run.

Conquest mode would be more fun with respawns and would actually be more of a conquest mode then. That would also make it different then Team Deathma- excuse me, "Assault" mode. IMO.
