FF needs to be addressed. (friendly fire)

nowhere in any of the training guides does it touch on this subject.

many a game am i plagued by one lag shield light that runs between 10 pairs of legs and we end up shooting each other more then the light does. i am unsure if people understand FF is in game or because there is no RNR, we are free to blow each other to hell.

TK is addressed in the form of a penalty at the end of the match. it would be really nice to see FF damage dealt and received just as stats at the end (no punishment needed). this can open peoples eyes up to the harm they are doing without punishing them or making a whole guide on it. the stats alone are a nice addition to the game anyway.

edit 15/1/13
only your own dealt and received FF stats not everyone.

I would love FF stats to be listed. Kills and damage too. FF damage should be a negative vs your damage bonus award.
But then TK penalties should be increased.
I mean the xp penalty is a good size, but the cbill penalty is a joke, 10k? laughable, the xp seems to be the biggest deterrent, but then that only applies before a person has maxed their skills. I think the cbill penalty should be 100k, or there about.

I don't think Ferro Fiberous armor will solve this problem.

So I wasn't the only one completely confused by the acronym and the thread title.

Ferro Fibrous stats are really bad.

Friendly Fire isn't, but it seems overkill to track damage delivered to friendl yunits. Team Kills are a problem. Friendly Fire "Accidents":.. meh. It happens, better avoid it.

Where's the FF/TK poem when we need it?

i can change the title if this was a poll but im stuck now.

i know ff happens but some people dont, they just zip their lasers everywhere. 2 games ago, i got alpha in the back and i was standing still, friendly was trying to shoot through me. the stats would educate each other and by other games standards it wouldnt clutter up anything.

Luckily Google cache still has the original post. Hooray for lag shield exploiters.

This will be solved internally. Please do not discuss it any further.

A thing that might really help those people that have the need to fire their guns at the beginning of combat...
no, wait, two things

1) A 10 second immunity on spawn. Fire your precious missiles and lasers to figure out how much heat they produce or how your weapon groupings are set up or whatever excuse you may have, I don't care right now.
2) A training mission/area where you can test out your mech without other people.

But that's all old news, I suppose.

Fact still remains, people will use those, and other cheat programs.

If I can repeat them anyone can do it. The last thing PGI wants is a large group of exploiters destroying the game.

And anyone who uses a light mech with ECM is exploiting most of the bugs and faults in the game. Intentionally or unintentionally.

I suppose in general I like the idea of FF stats being shown, but my concern is the assumptions people will draw from it when the see the results screen. If the match ends and you see someone with a bunch of friendly fire and maybe even a friendly kill, what will you first impression be, and will you ever think anything other than that?

I've had plenty of people run into my firing line during combat. I've been distracted and done the same, and sometimes I've done it intentionally trying to time it to run in between shots (in faster mechs). I blew out a friendly raven with a double SRM6 blast when it suddenly popped in between me and our target. And then there's the confusion that can result when you're in thermal. I accidentally killed a friendly that way once. I'm careful about friendly fire, and miss out on lots of potential shots by not firing because of my team's positioning and movements, and I've still killed 2 allies.

Maybe FF is something that should only show up for the individual. Players can see what they're doing to their team and hopefully feel an urge to correct themselves. That way it doesn't add extra negativity to the game. It's something people hate, and if they see those stats for everyone in the match, they're likely to assume the worst. We should be having fun instead of raging over idiot01 on our team.

Then again, if it is there, maybe people will get used to seeing the minor amounts and understand that those instances aren't the problem. That type of thinking usually leads me to continued disappointment in humanity though.

We need at least a 2X penalty for team damage if not more.

I would be one shotting team mates left and right if I had a 2x damage modifier against them. Pugs would be hilarious!

for the individual is what i should of stated in the start i guess. just to see how much FF i dealt or received not the other players.

I don't really agree with a 10 sec invuln. People then fire at others simply because of it and then they lose track of time elapsed and...well....

What I would like to see instead is, for the first 10 seconds or so, if one team mate shoots another, the damage is reflected back onto the shooter.

As for the brawlfest, there would have to be some things first. One of which would be to make an adjustment to how firing lasers work. To fire a laser for the full duration, it should require holding the button down. My first instinct, when someone is crossing my line of fire is to stop pressing but unfortunately they end up getting a nice glowing line completely across their back.

Then they can make it so that the damage you do to a friendly is calculated the same as damage to the enemy except negative instead. When people start seeing the hit to their c-bills, they'll start being more careful as to where their shots are going.
