So I was reading a post regarding the devs supposedly ignoring the forums due to all of the negativity and trolling posted here (see http://mwomercs.com/...what-you-think/), and it got me thinking.
Yes, me thinking is a scary thought.
What the devs should consider doing is to open up a 'controlled' forum area, where only they can start topics, but would allow users to respond. This would be used by the devs to pose specific questions to the community. They would use polls or review player responses to guage the impact/opinion of the ideas being presented. They could query the player base with things such as:
- Which is the best way to balance ECM?
- Improved counters
- Nerf functionality
- Both above
- ECM is fine, don't touch it.
- What would you like to see the devs focus on for the next patch?
- Netcode
- Matchmaker
- More maps
- More mechs
- etc.,etc.
- Should DHS outside the engine be 2.0x?
- Yes
- No
This would allow them to get more timely responses to specific questions and questions that pertain to their current development efforts and future development strategy and timeline.
I imagine these foums would need to be moderated a little more closely than the others, so it might take a little bit of manpower. But it would probably be worth the investment.
I'm not downplaying the usefulness of the other existing forums, but this way they would get immediate feedback re: issues they need it for without having to slog through gobs of random posts by negative Nancies and trolls.
Effectively, this would give players a 'vote' as to how the game progresses. At least on the issues they would like to have our votes on.
Devs - sound like a good idea to you?
