In all the posts about the merit or utility of this new mech, one topic is overlooked: Does anyone else care about what new heights you can attain in this mech? Now what the spider can actually accomplish to help your team win once you have reached new heights is not relevant and misses the point. An interesting side challenge to pilots who favor jump jets on their mechs is scaling new formerly unattainable terrain. Is this childish? Maybe. Does anyone have some landmarks on the maps we know by heart that they are itching to climb and hope that the spider can reach?

The maps are way too tiny and a lot of the good spots are out of bounds. The few high places that are unreacable at the moment are probably unrechable for the spider as well unless ot can jj 5x better than any other mech not just 2x

Please refrain from complaining about the state of jump jets in the game on this thread. That's been overdone. I only pilot heavies with jump jets, catapults and cataphract 3D. I've never owned or piloted a single jenner nor a single raven. Here is a list of where I routinely climb with current jump jet capability in 65 and 70 ton mechs:

1. The top of the crane in forest colony.
2. The skyscraper roof in frozen city behind the south base.
3. The medium lone cliff in front of forest colony south base.
4. The cathedral rooftops (both) in river city.
5. The medium buildings at north of river city and central of east bay.
6. The tall skyscraper attached to medium building central of west bay in river city.
7. All medium buildings on frozen city.
8. The rock ledges above eastern cave exit on forest colony.

I like to play my jumping mechs like Assassin's Creed character but there are peaks I can't climb that I hope I can reach with the spider.

hmmm i think the spider will jump like the old jenner did before the jj nerf. it wouldn't surprise me if many find the spiders jump capability to be underwhelming.

whoops sorry no jump jet talk. ummmmm not much terrain to take advantage of and people with snipe weaponary will be looking in the sky and keeping their radar in mind to find building top spiders. what the spiders can do up there will have to be put to the test tommorow.

I'm more concerned with the functionality of JJ's in general. 39 meters vertical climb in a Cataphract with the max # of JJ's is pathetic to say the least.

I'd hate to see a Highlander with its max number of Jump Jets barely able to climb off the ground. At this rate, the Highlander Burial is impossible to do.

I love that crane on Forest Colony. It really shows how frigging tiny these maps are. I've gotten 4 snipe kills with my 2 gauss 3D before while the other team was hiding in their spawn.

Oh, since you are also a fan of getting into sneak-sneaky places, you can jump on top of the Boat Docks Crane in River City. Fun Fun

--And yes, you can also kill the enemy team in their spawn from there as well. These maps are tiny.

Assuming a Spider can reach top skyscrapers and cliffs, it can spot targets with BAP and sensor module enhancements. It can tag ECM cloaked enemies for missile targeting. It can snipe with ER large laser in its torso and/or ER PPC in its right arm. It can have a commanding presence of the map with few mechs hidden behind cover or ridges and relay all that info to the team making it the most effective scout. This will have more use when command module comes into play. I wouldn't be surprised if a field general pilots the spider as commander from a top vantage point (unorthodox I know). The fair downside to all this unobstructed scenery is easy death from a sniper.

Be careful, the top of a lot of structures are traps that the mech will get stuck in. There are issues with clipping on a lot of them.

Are you still able to reach the top of crane in forest colony in your 70 ton 3D? I used to be able to, but since the jump jet nerf I barely miss either the height or distance despite max jets and largest engine (340 XL) equipped. I can still land it in the 65 ton catapults but just barely and it usually takes several tries with current state of jump jets. I gave up on reaching it in the cataphract chassis and chalked it up to "impossible" until things are fixed. I was wondering if anybody can do it in a phract today.
