Actually I'd say it's how many trial mech's you see appearing. Which is very few, so either every hypothetical new player is installing installing and throwing down money to get a Mech or... there aren't that many actual new players.

No, this isn't a 'zomg dieing' thing but I do see the same faces going around and around quite often, which if there were lots of new players should be statistically unlikely.

TBH I think we all know it's struggling.

New players are being murdered by premades and so they get put off and leave, I personally know a few, it's killing the game.

Last night 3 of us playeed about 25 games using C3, we only once tried to be organised, the rest of the time we were just chatting about all sorts and had no idea where we were in relation to eachother. We had a good night and never used C3 to our advantage, we could of, but we did'nt but then again we are not stat whores and we all want new players to stay.

This game needs a in game tutorial. like in MW3 and MW4.

or any first person shooter really. you'd think it would have once since all the other easier shooters have tutorials Halo4 (press this button to shoot, jump over this, get cover here etc etc)

I wish MWO will never have tutorial.

WOT was killed to me with large amount of kids who flooded servers.
Every battle i had to facepalm myself as i watched my teammates fail miserably.

Well, if NEVER had to play along with bad players on my team, i don't mind tutorial.

if you ever want to get community warfare we will need more players. right now with so relatively few 8vs8 games going on. How will there be enough people to simulate even a faction of the warfare in actual BTuniverse

your complaint can be addressed by an elo based matchmaking system that players like you and new players will both like

Megan man like mechs, which can do mortal kombat like fatalities. We can call them, mechtalities. Call the units, mechnauts.

And good net code/ balanced teams/ timely updates/more specificity in dev notes/ sexier premium mechs/ more modes/ more "cool" things ot buy with MC, and...

Voltron/Megatron hero mechs.

Everyone who makes it through this phase will though probably stick with the game longer than some casual who thinks he is a super mech pilot after doing a little tutorial and getting his first mech thrown at him for nothing.

Fair enough.that may give someone more attachment and reason to stay.the caveat is that the game needs quantity to survive, not just quality.

Tell you what. You give me a large metal saddle on THIS, with some slots, ballistic hardpoints, and missle/laser hardpoints.. Charge 15,000 MC, and we will talk turkey. I'd pay that, to get that, in a heartbeat.

Its only 10% who actually pay in F2P. I bet it is safe to say: most of these 10% are the people who can beat learning curve by themself.

The problem, unfortunately, is multifaceted. A steep learning curve with no tutorial, combined with being pitted against premades or sync drops with pimped out Mechs absolutely kills new player retention. Hopefully the new matchmaking and ratings will help to fix that, although I doubt it will completely. Then on top of that you have a currently very unbalanced/boring metagame which absolutely kills 8s (and consequently any CW and the like until it is properly balanced).

I'm not sure the game is exactly struggling, but I think people are getting bored/burnt out without proper balance and deeper gameplay (CW). I'm definitely pulling for PGI, and I'm hoping they can pull it off (but balancing 8s metagame really should be near the top of their list), and I still think they can do it.
