I have been playing MWO for several weeks now. Recently I have been crashing to desktop right at the beginning of every game. It doesn't seem to matter if I haven't played in a while, as soon as I log in the first game I join I crash right after the game starts. It also doesn't seem to matter if I have another mech locked "in-game" or not.
I have attempted to re install completely, up to today's most current patch. (the only exception being I did not mess with registry files).
I do not receive any type of crash/error messages, the game just simply closes and kicks me back to the menu.
My graphics card drivers are up to date and my PC isn't brand new but the specs are more then capable of handling this game. I had played it without this issue for weeks.
One thing that has just now occured to me that has changed. I recently purchase a new monitor (Hanns-G 27" 2ms) which I have connected through the HDMI slot in my video card. The old monitor I was using I left plugged in the DVI slot. Maybe this could be my issue?
Here is my system specs.

At this point I am just going to keep launching mechs on different video settings till I figure it out. Unless anyone else can think of a better plan...

Been having the exact same problem and tried the same thing to fix it. I'm not getting any error messages/ codes or anything. Four seconds into a game it crashes back to the home screen and w/e chasis I used is in combat. Nothing wrong with my hardware/software and I'm well within specs for the game.

HDMI emits a radically different EDID than DVI does. The connection could very well be the issue, though it sounds more like a runtime issue in the GPU driver DX runtime, or the game itself. Can you generate a DXDiag and post it? You might have a buzzard refresh or something that causes failures. Off brand monitors make games unstable.

exit the game
try deleting your user folder
this will scrub your shader and reset all your controls and graphics settings
between patches and users changing their setups and settings these files can get very "dirty"
to find your user folder , right click your MWO short cut and select "open file location"
press backspace once
then delete the user folder
the game will rebuild all your shaders and config files based on your current pc config

The above fixed the problem for about 1 day. The very next day, it started having the same issue again. This was even after the game was closed several times and reopened. So I deleted the file and started playing normally again. Today it's starting to have the same issue again. I hope this is just a patch issue.

I too am having this same issue. have been playing fine since Beta ( except for FPS drops in later patches ) till 3 days ago it just crashes to desktop no errors, no warnings 4-5 seconds into a match every game. I have tried everything including Format HD, re-install new os Vista x64 ultimate, updated all new drivers and os. Downloaded, and repatched game. No other game I have installed to check does what this one is doing in fact all other games now run a lot better now.But this one still fails.

I had issues when I started. I installed drivers manually and then installed Direct X 11 manually. That fixed all my issues.
The game does not necessarily tell you if it is a graphics issue. Even generic errors can sometimes be graphics related.

The game isn't running on direct x 11 though

Not sure what to tell you...drivers alone did not fix my problem (at least not by itself). Manually installing Direct X 11 did though.
I forget what the error was, but I remember it was not graphics related. I re-installed out of desperation. It worked for me though.

Installed 310.90 latest for the Nvidia GTX 650 I'm using it did not make a difference. Not sure where to look to now as I have just Installed new OS and Drivers................Going to try the Beta 313.95 Drivers.
Never mind I think I found my problem. Due to .net 3.5 framework being messed up and in turn messing up my .net 4.0 framework most everything I try to re-install won't go. So looks like a manual install of all the .Net framework and Directx's........see if that fixes this issue
( Repairing .Net 3.5 fails due to missing files )
