is the back story of this mech posted anywhere? i'm guessing it is a PGI made up one like the Illya... but I like the fiction they send out with the hero mechs

TRO 3025 Has a mention that it was piloted by Captain Bono Dugamare of the 22nd Skye Rangers. No mention of load-out or type his Commando was.

Well at least it is not a Hero 'Mech Flea.

I expect it will perform decently and am sure I will see at least one sporting almost half its weight in lasers.

It's finally happened. We picked on him and tormented him for too long...

R2D2 is going to reap vengeance this day.

^ This, The Death's Knell is Bono Duganmare's Commando. However, Catalyst never mentioned what the loadout was and didn't list a record sheet either, so PGI is making it up. Its basically a 'half-canon' Mech they are adding. The paint job looks silverish like Catalyst describes. I don't see any 22nd Skye Ranger markings on it though, but Duganmare is described as the commander of the training portion of it ( a company within the regiment, 3-5 platoons ), not the Commander of the Regiment itself.

This is the logo of the 22nd Skye Rangers

I've always wanted a hero commando, and I knew it would have to be flashy like this one. Id consider buying it but so far I'm hooked on the spider (no ECM). Can't wait to see some of these metal babies on the battlefield!

When I saw it I thought - really? We need another light mech?

But this one comes with 2 ECMs and a 400XL engine.

Puma practice, a dual PPC Commando?

Tonnage forbids it. 14 tons = 2 PPCs. The mech is 20 tons max. Smallest XL engine is 2.5 tons and requires 5 heatsinks. You cannot fit 2 PPCs even if you strip the entire armor off and use endo steel.

1 PPC and 3 med lasers though, using dual heatsinks would be workable though.

Or 2 large lasers, 2 med lasers.

The commando is 25 tons.

With no Armor, Endo Steel, no engine and no heatsinks the Commando Weighs 1.5 tons

2 PPC = 14 tons.
XL170 Engine (4 Tons) + 4 additional heatsinks (8 Tons total) for 10 leaves you with 1.5 tons for armor.
XL100 Engine (0.5 Tons)+ 6 additional heatsinks (6.5 tons Total) for 10 leaves you with 3 tons for armor.
STD 100 Engine (1 Ton) + 6 additional heatsinks (7 tons total) for 10 leaves you with 2.5 tons for armor.

Very doable, almost even practical.

Gives you a 0.91 Heat efficiency with SHS
Gives you a 1.16 Heat efficiency with DHS

I would recommend using a STD engine over the XL if your drop to a 100 Engine Rating.

This would give you 80 armor points, or 89 if you planned on using FF as well.

Then again i'll try it out

EDIT: It works! Though your a walking pillbox.

If it gets ECM, I will strongly consider buying it, as it will be the most affordable hero mech. (And I like Commandos.) If not, I think it just has too large a disadvantage to the 2D.

If they went back to the old pay system, with larger payouts and expenses, then this would be a great C-Bill grinding machine.

No ECM, I guess that's due to the pressure not to make Hero Mechs P2W, or possibly the era.

Top speed says it will take a 215 (8.6*max) rather than the usual 210 Commando limit.

I'd say it would go up interestingly against a Cicada CDA-2A or 2B.

This mech looks like R2-D2 and Mega Man did a little "bow chicka wow wow" ... lmao!!!!

Therefore i MUST own it!!!

Now WHAT to name it?!?

I am leaning towards Mega-D2, but to be honest i wanna see what others say!!

Screw the haters I'll buy it. Loved the Commando since the intro to Mechwarrior 2 mercenaries and this one fits my general playing style of quick, irritating, and obnoxious to hit, swap a M Laz out for a Tag and I'll have fun. Might not be an SRM boat or one of those obnoxious ECM ravens but I know I'll run this and have fun (even if I get killed periodically).

not impressed... this thing is going to get murdered by absolutely everything out there that isn't a spider. Maybe this is why spiders suck so hard? So this hero mech has something to kill?
