Well, this sucks...

Yeah, they killed the better mech game that was in development well before they even had the IP, a low blow for sure.

A greater loss to mech games than it will be when this pointless mess folds up in six months. I really feel for those LL guys. Loved the mod and imperfect though it was, they really knew how to deliver gaming on a grand scale. Superb stuff.

Oh. Thought this would bring out real big crocodile tears. Was hoping for the 3rd person tears. This will bring eventuality tears.

It's true I didn't really like it. It's also true I saw this coming, and probably knew about it before most everybody else.
But even if I didn't like it, that doesn't for real take away the enjoyment others had for it, and I think after so long, and being the most obvious reason this game is here, and we still have battletech in general, it deserves my respect, too.

Well darn. I guess I won't ever get that up and running. Mechwarrior: IP Wars. The dirtiest, most bitter and casualty-filled battles of giant robots are unfortunately in the courtrooms of our era's Earth.

Finally, a real cease and desist.
Well. It was bound to happen eventually, but all it really did was put more pressure on PGI to make a good product.

Actually it gives them license to do what they want now that they shut down a small mod that makes their game look barren of content by comparision. They have absolutely no drive or pressure. Other than avoid losing people who want to give them money.

They were handed a Cease and Desist by the only other license holder of Mechwarrior content. Aka PGI/IGP.

Hmm. What I'm getting from the living legends patch notes is that the non commercial license that the MWLL devs had was revoked. The post isn't exactly clear on the why or how, beyond that they don't have a license anymore.

Never played MWLL, but I dont have anything against the rights holder for defending its rights holdingness......unless that rights holder is Harmony Gold......

Kill killed a killer kill. Kill. Killed.

Feel bad for the LL team, but such is life in the world of patents and registered trademarks.

The end of an era. Hopefully not the IP, but we all had high hopes for both of them. We knew MWLL's end was coming soon, but... The developers don't seem to know exactly how to balance the game, and that's okay, because that's a hard thing to do concisely. The netcode is worse that it was 15 years ago, though. That's not acceptable. Tertiary additions to the game while some things are ludicrously broken means they are forcing their way through a plan and it's going to trip them HARD when it catches up.

It's a complicated situation.
Basically, in the dark, distant past of 2006 or so, a non-commercial license to a pretty dead and buried IP was asked for, and granted, but many, many years afterwards, the IP itself changed hands, and the trillion different owners decided to try and bring order into the house, as it were.

This meant all non-commercial licenses came into question, and PGI, microsoft, IGP, and probably a ton of others, all reached a gentlemen's agreement with the LL crew. They'd get to finish what they'd started, but then they wouldn't be allowed to release anything more.

What's ironic is that this game, and probably battletech as a whole, wouldn't have survived this long without their hard work over the years.

That sucks.

I never played it, but it can't be a good feeling having all your hard work frozen because of legal issues.

Maybe they can work for PGI and speed up the process lol.
