Ok, I want to start off by saying it is wonderful to finally be back in the cockpit of a giant robot, in the BT realm. This game is fun, and a welcome change from the standard "shooter." I also agree with the sentiment that this game should have remained in closed beta longer than it did. That being said and taking into consideration that once it goes open you cant go back. What not let the community actually test some of the things that are in the works. I will try to separate my thoughts into categories from this point.
Maps:
From reading the forums, it sounds like there are 2 to 3 maps in the works, in a closed testing environment. If these maps are built, and for the most part textured, why not release them to the actual beta testers, and create a feedback section for the new maps. I'm not sure how many people you have working on the mapping team, but it seems to me that utilizing the people playing open beta would be a far more efficient way to test.
Mechs:
Same as above. If they are built, their movement, and texture/modeling is complete. Then throw them to the wolves, let your beta testers to the final testing.
ECM:
ECM in its current state, severely deviates from canon. ECM was not meant to provide a blanket affect to an area, but protect the mech it is equipped on. Making it harder to achieve lock. I like the idea of the ECM mech jamming enemy sensors, within a given range, It adds a layer of difficulty to missile boating LRM. Where IMHO ECM stumbles, is its ability to effectively hide your team from other mechs.
LRM:
LRMs in TT did 1dmg per missile. Currently they do around 1.8-2dmg. What was the reason for this change? Near as i can tell ECM was implemented to counter LRM... Would it not have been easier (and more logical) to lower the damage output of LRM's slightly to be more in line with TT? Apposed to creating and trying to balance a blanket effect radar jamming system?
Anyway, just a few suggestions...and let your beta testers do the testing.. inb4 TL:DR

This being an Open beta, they don't want to release things that are not up to a quality they want to public to see. that is why maps and mechs come out at the pace they do.
LRMs and SRMs got a damage boost because of their spread and random hit locations. Unlike TT, ballistics and energy weapons don't hit random locations and you can place the damage where you want. This makes it so an AC20 could take out a mech with a total of 60 damage done to it, while against the same target, LRMs could take 200+ damage to kill it. That is why they got a boost in damage, to try and match up with the boost direct fire weapons got by being able to place their shots.
I'm not touching ECM, there are enough threads on it currently.

I disagree, the current structure of the open "beta" is more of a come play the game early, instead of help us test the release client. I have participated in a number of beta tests from closed to open to release, and am more than willing to play on mostly finished, or "Beta" standard mechs/maps in order to aid the development teams. Obviously a closed testing environment is needed, but pushing out a polished "release candidate" worthy version of everything isn't at this point of the beta process. Let the testers test, so the coders can work on more important problems.
