So the game itself never reached the atmosphere of the intro.
Which is also true for MW2 and GBL.
chuckles aside. I don't understand your fixation on one line dialogue somehow communicates the atmosphere of an entire game. There's only one game in my mind that that works for which is Bioshock "would you kindly." Bioshock however has one of the greatest atmospheres of all time.
Mercs had an atmosphere - a dark grungy world of giant robots. The intro, the pilot diary, mission descriptions, oh and those little custcenes of when you died or ejected, and the one of the dropship taking off and landing. Or how about each menu is accessed first by interacting with a scene. In the case of the MW2 games, that scene is a nicely rendered room with detail and character.

that was a finished game too, this is still in beta.
still thumping that weak defense?
then again the menu system for MWO is a nightmare, so I'd rather not have them 'try and improve it.' Devil I do know and all that.
