If we ever get a Zeus it'd be nice to remake the mechwarrior 2 mercenaries intro, we have every other mech and enough believable maps

If you've never watched it you can view it here, it's amazing:

"I've got the Recon data and one pissed off Atlas on my tail!!!!"

Team venom:
Zeus and Commando

Draconis Combine:
Atlas and Catapult

Look at the brightside Kid, you get to keep all the money...

you read the pilot diary right before every mission right?
how about the menus that acted like a point-and-click adventure.

still way more than mwo.

Sure, but noone told me during a mission that I would get all the money when one of my lancemates died.

they already told, of course, in the intro. And if you survived and your lance mates didnt...you kept all the money! B)

I actually cried when the commander died in the Mech Warrior 2 Mercenaries Intro. That was sad. Why didn't she eject? The dropship pilot was such a jerk would have taken 15 seconds at most for her to get on the drop ship.

Mechwarrior 2 intro also made me sad. Pilot was machine gunning when he had some perfectly good missles and the PPCs probably cycled by the time he ran out of ammo.

Thanks to this excellent post
http://mwomercs.com/...ing-pgis-mechs/

I am attempting just that. Although I'm working on remake of first MW2 title. I just liked the music and pacing of the dialog better.

It may take a bit longer than intended since I have to learn Blender. I'm and old 3DSMax guy, but haven't used in quite some time.

I have all the mechs exported/imported and skinned. I am working on rigging currently. I haven't decided which mechs to use. Camera view will depend on which mech has best cockpit view for 1st person perspective.

So the game itself never reached the atmosphere of the intro.

Which is also true for MW2 and GBL.

chuckles aside. I don't understand your fixation on one line dialogue somehow communicates the atmosphere of an entire game. There's only one game in my mind that that works for which is Bioshock "would you kindly." Bioshock however has one of the greatest atmospheres of all time.

Mercs had an atmosphere - a dark grungy world of giant robots. The intro, the pilot diary, mission descriptions, oh and those little custcenes of when you died or ejected, and the one of the dropship taking off and landing. Or how about each menu is accessed first by interacting with a scene. In the case of the MW2 games, that scene is a nicely rendered room with detail and character.

still thumping that weak defense?
then again the menu system for MWO is a nightmare, so I'd rather not have them 'try and improve it.' Devil I do know and all that.

The atmosphere of the intro and the atmosphere of the game are two completly different things for me - in all 3 MW2 games. They were great, no doubt about it, but I always wished for games that would look and feel like the intros of the three MW2 games.

Of course, I'll never dispute that. The atmosphere outside of the simulation part (and the intro) was absolutly stunning. It would be cool to have something like that in MWO, though we both know that will probably never happen. But well, one can always dream.

Did you know that video is actually 100% accurate depiction of what happens when you scout in a commando?

An atlas chases you, teammates kill the atlas, and missiles are fired at you as you barely escape.
