I don't understand the scoring/credit system in MWO. If I took out 95% of a 'Mech and you hit it once with a small laser, you shouldn't get an assist bonus, especially a higher one than I got for killing them. Also, no one should get a kill bonus just for being the person who happened to fire the final shot. It seems to me that if we were credited based on the percentage of each successful kill we fired on, assists would be factored into it and it would more accurately reflect the contribution each player made. Would this require too much calculation/tracking? Or maybe I'm just not seeing why the current system is superior to the one I suggested. If so, please enlighten me.

No Kill/assist, Just Percentage Of Kill

I'm pretty sure this was discussed several times. Nevertheless you are absolutely right. Have killed yesterday twice, 2 mechs in a single salvo and was ashamed, because i hardly did any damage to them

Yeah...I regularly get robbed of kills. It sucks.
Especially when you have been dueling with an enemy and get them down to near death when a team mate sweeps in from nowhere and kills them with a small laser. So f*cking maddening.
I'm all for stats that more accurately depict player skill...because as is, K/DR is not very accurate.

I believe (some) of the stats will include: Kills Per Match, Damage Per Match, Assists, weapon/limb destruction, etc.
I'm wary of a '%' based killing system, as Light/Light Medium pilots such as myself already suffer from what you say, but also would a % system, as I kill enemies by coring their rear armour, often destroying them at >80% health. If some Atlai pummel it's front, and I core it's back and kill it, who deserves the kill? They did 25%+, but I only did 15 or so.
If that makes sense.

I think the only way a % based killing system works, is if the damage is tracked per body area.
Essentially, every point of damage that is dealt should be categorized based on where it hit. Then if the last screen says the "type" of Kill, it would be more apparent who was responsible.
Imagine the last screen having a lot more statistics, but one of the columns would be "kill"
Center Rear Torso 100% Garth, 0% Bhael Fire. So Bhael gets component destruction maybe, gets some sort of minimum kill assist, but then he immediately knows that the "light laser" actually did all the killing.
Alternatively, Bhael is hammering at an atlas, and Garth runs up and does an alpha killing the mech (Dang that Garth!), it might say
Center Torso 99% Bhael, 1% Garth.
At that point, I think whoever has the highest percentage for the "kill" shot, might get the kill reward, everyone else who gets % of the killing shot maybe gets kill assist rewards, or maybe not. If Bhael dies at the last moment and Garth does the final kill for 1% but also saves the match, maybe its ok to give the final shot the kill shot, as long as at the last screen Bhael can see "Woot, I did 90%+ of all kill shots" and he was rewarded appropriately, even if he didn't get the final blow.
I know personally when I'm hitting people with LRMs and getting them down to <30% on 3-5 different targets but get "no" kill shots, it'd be nice to know if I'm helping at all in the kills, or if its meaningless because my missiles are hitting all over the place.

People will take kills from you, it happens. Sometimes you will take a kill from someone else, it happens. I believe it all evens out in the end. Technically, you get paid more for the assist than you do the kill, right? KDR means nothing to me, C-Bills are what matters.

I think teamwork is the key factor of any BT game and with that everyone should be happy when the big glaring guns pointing at you beeing shot by your teammates to death before they take you out.
The way it is now with assists > kills in rewards makes everyone who can not kill a target alone and who plays as a team more rewarded than the kill hungry "kill stealer".
Don't feel "punished" for killing your stuff. You get rewarded for Kills, just not as much as assists.
That doesn't mean you should hold back with your deadly fire, because that could let your team lose and you dont get any assist (because your team hold back to not get "only" kill reward)
One think I realy would like to see is bonus for component destruction also count for the Engine or cockpit, so a kill is not always less than an assist. That would also make any future Engine critical system worthwile maybe.

weither this, or just reward kill and assist with the same ammount, so it does not matter if you assist or kill^^ just shoot at it and you are good
