Please allow premade groups of any size from two to eight players.
I'm sure, there are several ways to make a fair match but as a beginning I would suggest a simple match making system without looking on the players' personal skills:
1. Put a group of X players in team A.
2. Put a group of the same size (or of X +- 1 players) with roughly the same tonnage in team B
3. Fill the empty slots with solo players (or maybe two-player groups) to match up the tonnage to get well balanced teams.

this would only work if people would be willing to wait minutes for a match.

Do you think it would take so long to get a balanced match? Of course if the optimum is not reached in a suitable time some trade offs are needed. But I think playing with 5, 6 ot 7 players in a group should be worth it.

I'm quite sure this would work without having to wait too long.
Statistically there are always people with the amount of player of your team if the total player count is above xyz. And I would say mwo is above this level.
IF it would fall beyond this level and there is really no 4 5 or 6 man group to match your 5 man group then the best next group match would be searched 3 + 2 + rest pugs aso..

I also think that it would help pugs to increase their experience when having uber-mixed teams. And it shouldn´t be that complicated to bring this into the match-maker. For almost too often I had the experience, that there weren´t enough mates online to form a proper 8-mech-team. I would highly appreciate the realization of this idea!

With the clan invasion right around the corner, a trial/bidding system really is needed.
Plus the ability to go one on one, either for personal duels or training a new player before dropping them right into the chaos of battle and a pug who will blame them for the loss.

I've actually, always wanted to try this. Uneven team member #'s , but , roughly, the same tonnage. Not sure how well it would work out, but it would be fun to try.
It might take a little longer to find matches, but honestly, I'd be ok with that. It would be nice to launch into a front end screen where you can see the other members of your Drop group, the 'mechs they are in, load outs, etc etc. Perhaps even allow a chat function while you wait the whole minute the server is building a match.
Once secondary assets get implemented (Like UAV, Artillery , etc etc ) If the server cannot find an exact weight match, it gives the team with lesser tonnage a bit more in terms of secondary assets. An extra Barrage or UAV for every 10 tons off.
Team A has 4 Atlas and an Awesome (480 Tons) , Team B has a more mixed Lance of 8 Mechwarriors for 460 Tons. Their commander gets 2 extra UAVs (or whatever)
It'd be interesting to see.
Cheers.

i´d anyway like to see the matchmaker try to pair even teams against each other, and if not possible fil up with closest numbers to match it..
as in f.e.
12 man teams
7+4+1 random on one side vs: 6+3+3 on the other side, and any other possible combinations... can´t be that hard
or, as you said, if that above is not possible, match a smaller group with the same or slightly higher weight...
(for example: a 6 man group + a 5 man is found that match the weight of the 12, or are 10 tons heavier... fine)
same goes for 8 man teams as well, even if the possible combinations on 12 man teams might be more...

Voted all 3 options, because it was possible and there is no "abstain" or "don't care" option. Well done on that poll!
