It's a bit taller than the Commando and weighs five tons more, so it seems more or less correct to me

Much taller than a commando. It might be too big for what it's supposed to be, but it's right for the weightclass.

yes, its a bit taller but its also considerably thiner

The spider is a small mech in lore with so PGI made it small in the game. Plus it helps make up for the terrible weapons hardpoints.
