Closing 99% constructive threads in the feedback forum. Why don't we just admit that's a little bit of an overreach and just open her back up yeah? Delete the poll or amend it's language if you prefer.

Srsly etc.

The discussion in that thread struck me as amost purely constructive, regardless of the poll/OP.

Wow, I can't believe that they locked that one. I'm sorry to the Dev who probably spent a lot of time working on it, but the idea was a bad one. How can it possibly be, that in a game (universe) that has no enemy detection unless they are in Line of Sight, that you could have a system that is advanced enough to know when an enemy is targeting you??

I notice that the staff only shows up to lock threads that criticize bad decisions, and to thank people who sing their praises.

Looks like it got locked due to the poll choices. Time to wait and see if PGI listens ;)

Since the other thread was locked I'll just put this here:

In the threads regarding this I've repeatedly seen people say 'just don't lock targets'. Many patches ago they made it so that when an enemy is in view for a certain period of time it automatically locks onto them if you have no other target. I don't recall seeing notes that this feature has been removed.

I never had cause to make use of it as I'm in the habit of hitting R but assuming this is still the way targetting works then simply 'not locking' won't always be an option for someone attempting to sneak attack. Thoughts?

Is that what the complaints are about, I haven't read any of these threads, I assumed people were complaining because it's annoying. Down with the backstabbers I say.

Running away now!

There's 2 sets of complaints (that I've seen so far). There is a set of folks complaining that it's too much chatter from Betty. You can turn her off but that's a bit drastic. And, truth be told, I like it better when she's turned on. ;)

The 2nd complaint (and the one I agree with) is that having an omniscient computer tell you when someone has targetted you goes contrary to the originally outlined mechanics/stated goals that said that scouting was integral to the experience. As has been pointed out, the effect of FOV only targetting was to put emphasis on awareness of your own surroundings and to encourage you to cooperate/rely on your teammates at all times for an accurate picture of what was going on in the battlefield. Being magically warned when someone has managed to evade you and your comrades weakens that aspect of the game and (IMO) makes it somewhat shalower overall.

Basically, it removes a tool (stealth) from the toolbox without a compelling reason for doing so. And I strongly disagree with that approach.

A cynic might say it got locked due to the poll results.....ludicrous though;

"This thread is entirely constructive but the poll is not conducive to a constructive thread so I'm closing it".

:D

I think it locks when you fire on an enemy that is detected if you have nothing else locked. So not so much impact in this case but the general premise of this detection warning is still badly flawed and has a huge impact.

Yes, when something significantly damages one of the pillars of the game design, it needs to go. ECM changed the game, this one broke an entire playstyle that was part of the original design pillars.

If you read the thread - the poll was added far later than the OP by request and marked as entirely as tongue-in-cheek.

Context - it's not just a an SMS from a Nigerian.

the context is its the first thing you read when you open the thread. why would i even bother to read a thread that starts with trollbait?

I didnt need to read the thread to see why it got locked. maybe the OP could delete the poll and ask for it to be unlocked if it is useful?

You apparently didn't need to read the thread to form an opinion about it's content either.

Regardless - if the poll requires moderation yet the thread is fine, moderate the poll and don't lock the thread right?

No surprise here. They locked my poll too because they didn't like the results. Before it got locked over 100 people voted, and almost 25% of the people still on the forums have quit playing entirely because of ECM. God only knows how many people quit the game AND the forums because of it.

Seriously, it's time for PGI to eat some crow and either DRASTICALLY nerf ECM or just remove it from the game entirely and rework it from the ground up before putting it back.

Read the poll questions.

Yes, these were loaded questions baiting trolls.

There were no trolls in the thread itself.

Should the admin have removed the poll?

Sure they were loaded questions, but honestly, anyone who's not vested in abusing ECM or downright stupid knows it's utterly horribly pathetic and needs to go.

Like I've said before, there is only 2 options.

1. PGI is stomping on us for bringing valid points because we are in fact trolling morons, the game continues to be a smashing success and we need to ****, or

2. PGI is stomping on stuff they don't like because "they know better" while in fact player numbers continue to decline and the game suffers from poor decisions.

Since we have no idea how many people are actually left playing the game (except that Comstar EU is dead and Comstar NA seems to have half the population it used too before ECM)

it is tough to say. I suppose in the end, time will tell.

That is an opinion, a poll must not contain an opinion, regardless of what you think.
If it does, it no longer is a pool.

Should the questions be non-troll and civil, the thread would still be going.
Also, smurf account...
