While I still think that colors should be pay-to-unlock rather than pay-for-single-use, I did have an idea that I think could be a compromise that would make both sides happy. Namely, keep the pay-for-single use model as it is. However, add in colors that are unlocked for multiple usage upon achievement of certain benchmarks. Your 100th win, getting three headshot kills, getting 7 kills in a match, etc. would grant you a color unlock that you could use like the PC Gamer colors. They become part of your permanent pallet. You could either have the color be random, or else you could perhaps link a specific color to that achievement.
It not only gives a permanent color pallet that doesn't undermine or significantly change the current for-pay model, but it gives meaningful, though ultimately trivial rewards for achievements.
What say you?
