Believe it or not, this is the absolute best internet available here. The BEST.

Threads like these are basically competitions to see who either has the best or the worst. The people in between carry the most shame.

At my girlfriends place in Canada, hoping when I get home to Ireland that my connection is good there. Once it makes MWO playable on the America servers I'll be happy :-) Never though of doing a speed test before.

So its looking like the large majority of people here wont be able to play at all, or comfortably.

Just for your information, I attempted gaming when Battlefield 3 came out, and before that Crysis 2 (which is the game engine that MWO runs off of.) and was running on a 10 mb/s down, 1 mb/s up connection from AT&T. Lets just say there was no point in even starting the game up, because having that little bandwidth killed any fun I might have had with enormous amounts of lag, even on servers 1 state away from me.

I switched to another provider, Time Warner, for 30 mb/s down and 5 mb/s up, then my performance vastly improved. The extra 20 mb/s down was a huge improvement but mainly the upspeed made most of the difference. So I would say you probably wont be doing any "fun" gaming with under 15-20 downspeed and anything under 5 upspeed.

My internet still isn't perfect, and I have some issues, but I can play everything comfortably unless I try playing on some server located in another country thats full of high pings. So hopefully I'll get the job at Verizon next week and switch to FiOS with a hell of a discount.

Speedtest.net seems to be incredibly off.

Before, the website told me I had a download speed of 2.60Mb/s. But when I actually went to download something off of, say, Steam, my download speed would peak at about 310kb/s. I got new internet, and it listed my download speed as 14.9Mb/s, but my actual download speed was 1.4Mb/s or so.

Is this normal? Are all of you getting lower real download speeds then Speedtest.net is claiming?

Sorry, zero ping is impossible. You'd have to ping your own network card for that, and even then you'd probably get 1ms ping times. Sounds like it ran into an error and didn't register ping. The other possibility is that you would normally have 1ms of ping, but it's really a low, low number so speedtest.net rounds it down. But not on a consumer line via Road Runner. The other possibility is that you used speedtest.net through a proxy server. Speedtest.net doesn't do a good job of detecting proxies.

Yeah, individual servers can vary. It's not speedtest.net itself, but some server out there that's fluctuating. The Internet can vary since so much traffic is being pushed through it, just as traffic on a highway can vary. I wouldn't worry about it. Try another server or try again later.
