Less of this stuff please. Just give more mechs with more abilities, I don't need secret pilot level ups, make the game complex enough that I level up myself by playing better.
When I finally Max out a mech, I don't feel like I've leveled up, I feel as if "There, now at Par."

Specialization happens with the modules and mechlab.
Even WoW's new trees have best specs

Ahem ... these are the old WoW talent trees, Blizzard themselves have moved away from this strict "path" talent system, in WoW as well as in Diablo 3.
I think we are seeing something similar like this with the modules, the mech skills are just like different proficiency levels not really comparable to talents but more to baseline skills that improve over time (character level). If any one of you played DAoC you might know at what I am hinting at.

Why do people hate my chanter spec'd chanter so much? With ML, I can almost solo Galladoria...
In any case, I do like this idea, not for mechs though, for something akin to pilot skills. Yes, I know that modules kind of cover this, but I really hoped for more. I just don't even know how to begin to express what that might be, though. More...always better.

I read that PGI wanted to do this originally with the pilot skills but decided against it.

Mech Weight Class =/= purpose of mech.
There are Medium mechs designed for Fire Support. There are heavy Striker/Flankers... even an Assault 'scout' mech in the Charger. So my thought and opinion is... no, it doesn't make sense.

The equipment you use desides what role you will be doing. Just some weight classes do it a little better.
Remember the DPS Tank from World of Warcraft? They can still do it. Just not as well as a pure Tank.

I don't think this is a good idea.
It would just lead to all the serious players taking the "best" choices anyway. Leave mech role specializing to the mechlab + module choices.

Exactly the same thing. People just build optimized mechs, instead of pumping XP into said mech and duding it up however they want.
I LOVE the Hawken upgrade system. Unfortunately, I kind of hate the game. It does really encourage (force) you to stay with one chassis though. Is something that in depth right for mwo, no. We need something more than we have though, since the chassis grind can be totally ignored with a few hundred MC and time spent in your 'best' mech.
There will always be disparity between new players and old players until matchmaking is based on performance. That is not a reason to stop a more involved XP system.

This is kind of what we expected for "mech or Pilot trees" we were told long ago there was going to be 3 trees, Scout, Command and Assault
still wondering if they axed this plan.
