When you get right down to it, it comes down to faith: Either they're lying whole cloth, or they're killing themselves on this project and being burned in effigy for their efforts. No amount of persuasion, "evidence" on either side, or attempts at reasoned debate are going to change anyone's mind. RL has taught us this.

There's no middle ground? I don't remotely think they are lying. I think they are working hard. It's not always possible to give the community awesome things every patch, and even if they do, they are still lambasted when X feature isn't included, or Y bug hasn't been quashed.

The trouble with this community is that it's just so flammable. Even if the devs post and try to explain schedule slips or missing features, they only end up throwing gasoline on the already roaring fires that the trolls here try so hard to keep ablaze.

I imagine this saps a lot of energy from the dev team. Were I in their shoes, I would stop investing energy into putting out fires, redirect it into working on the game, and release content when it's good and ready.

I've waited a long time for a BT game with as much promise as this one. I'd hate to see it ruined by content releases rushed out to appease the pitchfork wielding minorities.

PGI, I may or may not be in the minority, but I'm fine with you being the strong and silent type, rather than a bunch of mewling yes men/women! I don't care if you never inform me of another upcoming content release. I'm fine with surprises.

TBH I had very low expectations about MWO. Over the course of several years the Mechwarrior IP basically went untouched and different companies held the IP without much activity. Yes we had some mods, TCs and then MekTek got sanctioned as well. Still no "real" MW game.

Now, since November last year I'm able to actually play an MW game that at least "feels right" (because they really got that one right). There indeed are numerous things I as an individual and the community as a whole is not happy about or wants to see implemented much faster.

On some stuff I am pretty sure PGI would like to communicate but cannot without creating too much expectations (and thus possibly leading to further disappointment) and others that they do not want to talk about because these are ultimately business decisions that are in fact none of the communities' business. This is pretty standard; many of the most successful companies do not divulge every detail of product development with their customers.

I do agree that building faith, keeping faith, funding faith are essential for everyone involved with the success of this game, still PGI devs have to understand that (like any game community) they will get slammed for basically anything they do. Gamers in general are hard to please. On top of that PGI has a very patient, but also extremely pedantic and disillusioned community at hands, which will make the whole faith building/keeping process sometimes seem non existent.

Of course in the end we are all fans of MWO even the worst critics, whiners and trolls at heart love this game or else they wouldn't be that passionate about it.

But I really wanted to change the colour of my Ilya, she looks like any other Ilya, and that makes me sad.

I believe that IGP wants money, but I also believe PGI works hard.

Where my faith is lacking in PGI's ability to make the game work well. They may be just too small for the project they were planning for, they may lack some crucial skills, I don't know. But I am not really convinced by their ongoing efforts. That doesn't have to mean they are money-grubbers or lying to us at any point. It could mean they overestimated their own abilities, or at least created others to overestimate them and get unreasonable expectations.
