Garth had already confirmed, in Ask the Devs 10, that there are plans for LB-X ACs to eventually receive the ability to fire both slug and cluster munitions (and, ostensibly, the ability to switch between them during a match). :)

Yay!

the issue of SRM and LBX having overlapping roles is. really more that the missile is infringing on the ballistic's niche.

but changing the ballistic behavior would work also to differentiate them. i'd prefer if SRMs were changed though

PGI is very slow to touch weapon behavior. I have never seen a weapon change the way it moves/acts/mechanism since release. Flight path is number fumbling it doesn't count.

Yes, you can consider 2 and 5's do be like Flak Vierling or Tunguska. Hence why The Rifleman and JagerMech are considered "Anti-Aircraft" platforms since they mount small caliber Autocannon's. The 10's and 20's essentially take that concept and turn it against ground targets, like massive anti-tank guns.

However, since the damage values of AC's haven't changed, the rate of fires are relatively slow (they would be the worst AA cannons in history) in comparison to other titles like MW:LL where they did change the damage values in order to have incredibly fast firing AC/2, AC/5 (and their ultra versions), and RAC's, while AC/10's and AC/20's are relatively slow firing, but incredibly damaging. All LB-X cannons, in that game, fire a little slower, but do almost twice the damage ( a balance trade off ).

If the damage values get changed in MWO the TT purists raise their pitchforks in fear of thinking outside the box, "but... but the AC/5 says it does 5 damage!." We already have missiles that don't have their exact TT damage values (a comparison example).

If LBX-10 is a flak gun it should be able to shoot down LRMs.

I like me some LBX on occasion, but mainly because I am a terrible shot. In operation, however, they seem to work a great deal like an SRM4 or ArtySRM6. Granted, the rounds travel a little quicker, but the similarity is there.

SO,

An SRM4 delivers 10 points of 'spread' damage out to 150m before accuracy get tricky,
3 tons gets you 250 damage in about 75 seconds.

An Arty SRM6 delivers 15 points of 'spread' damage out to about 150m before accuracy issues,
5 tons gets you 250 damage in about 64 seconds.

For both these 1 additional ton of ammo provides another 250 damage.

The very similar LBX10 delivers 10 points of spread damage accurately to about the same distance,
12 tons gets you 150 damage in about 37.5 seconds. It takes 62.5 seconds to deliver 250 damage (using most of another ton of ammo).

If the LBX is going to stand happily beside the other ACs, justifying it's weight, it needs to stop thinking its an SRM launcher...
Proximity Flak would solve this.

Would it need a lock-on like SSRM/LRM for this? or a second triggering like a Hawken TOW?

Exactly.
