15 DHS for 2ppcs and a large pulse laser? this thing will run hot as hell

well both PPCs and Gauss is enough for most targets
when range drops below 90m i leave them and use the pulse laser and srm

in moste cases most targets will have big holes in their armor at this time.
i seldom overheat and shutdown, even at caustic valley discipline is everything

Mostly of the time I get caught in close combat so I suggest to have a close combat build for my AS-7 D.
The build I use at moment is:

Maybe this helps:

my build at moment

DHP - Endo STEEL
2 LL's left - right arm
1 gauss, case, 2 x guass ammo - Right torso
2 srm 6 + 2 x ammo
2 ML's center torso
open slots are full of double heatsinks

I mostly get caught because I am slow. Ambushed by little one's and then smashed.
Not sure what to do.

I will kerensky.

I am looking for a short range because I always get caught close combat ^_^

Don't listen to him. I do way better on my D than my D-DC. When you run out of ammo, shoot them some more with your medium lasers. I often end up doing over 1000 dmg and 5 kills in extended matches.

To keep your heat down and conserve ammo, do not fire your SRM until the enemy is within 150m. Feel free to spam the lasers and AC 20.

Remember that to unlock Master on the D-DC you will need to unlock 3 Elite on Assault mechs, better to save the D until then.

Having four slots available on an Atlas seems pretty interesting when more upgrades come available.

Until yesterday I didn't know that so yeah I will hold this D.
Find it frustratiing that I die every single time with only a damage between 250-500 max.

If I play long range I get quickly killed short range, when I play short range I get blown up from all sides.
I am a newbie not going whine about getting tons of CBills or great kills, but I do something wrong, but I don't find out what.

As long as you have a heat efficient build (which differs amongst the various mech building philosophies) it boils down to player skill.

I've seen great players in horrible builds still getting top scores and vice versa. So don't be so bent up over a 'perfect' build, because they don't exist in this game. Find something you are comfortable in and practice, practice, practice.

And remember, don't get discouraged about your builds if they don't fare well in single player pugs, get Teamspeak and start stomping around! Teammates + communication = more success than a '1 man army build'

EDIT: Forgot to add my D (Founders) build; for pugging:

4 ML
Gauss Rifle (4 ammo, can be 3 if you want an extra ton of armor)
2 SRM6 + IV artemis (3 ammo)

S315 engine
560 Armor
*1.43 Heat efficiency (*new HE meter; it's important to be able to fire your weapons consistently as an atlas for any duration of any fight)

Balanced, fun, long range poke and enough armor :( People will criticize it for not doing AS MUCH dps as it could be, but once again i say player skill accounts for more than builds do in pugging games, so just have fun with it!

Teamplay is important, but an Atlas is slow and if they don't wait for you yeah what then.....
I know it's impossible to be a one man army.^^

Thanks for the advice & sorry for whining. I know I am one of the millions who does it daily :(

Teamspeak is your savior! find the info for the Unofficial Servers, or the No Guts No Galazxy TS :( Never have to 1 man army / WTF is most of my team doing? again!

This game HEAVILY relies on in game communicaion. It boggles my mind the the C3voip is all the have come up with.

EDIT: As a follow up, I main Atlas, so i know how slow going, get left behind it can be. All the more reason to get comfortable with your surroundings and the movement of the battle, use that 'B'ig map button and follow the flow of your team

DDC (ECM has superiority on the battlefield right now unfortunately), D, then RS. The K doesnt get much love lately for hardpoint purposes. I use my DDC for competitive play, D (Founders) for pugging, RS for testing / fun builds (currently 4 LL + Gauss)

My AS7-D build Stayed the same, but I tweaked it with Madpanda's build.
It went very well. Got my Altas D-DC. I use one of the most common builds 3 x 6srm, 2 LL, 2 x UAC55"s artemis, no endo at moment, DHS.and of course ECM

HEAT 1.34
1-4 kills, 200-600 damage
I still need to learn to play decent, it's not the atlas it's me lol.
It's quite some improvement

Thanks guys/girls. The advice really helped me!

Can someone help me fit in here http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7cce67e141b6dc0 srm+artemis or something else... when lighties come close to me - usually i die, quick. I HATE close range combat cause my brain cant response quick enough for threats in close range (but im not bad at sniping with ppcs). Also would be very thankful if you can give me good sniping build.

Talking about sniping builds that can deal with lights, the best I've seen is what one of my clanmates runs as his PUG build.

Atlas DDC

2 PPC
Gauss Rifle (w/ case and 3 tons of ammo)
3 SSRM's (2-3 tons of ammo)

ECM
Engine (think its a S300)

As for lights, if you are being harassed and are alone, put your back up against a wall and set ECM to Counter if they are an ECM light. Modules like 360 retention and target decay will help your SSRM tracking. Use your Gauss wisely when you have guaranteed shots, but most of the time 1-2 salvo's from your SSRMs and they'll be running :P

I´ve found some success with this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a726bd5c8d67e74
I call it the EconomyAtlas.
It has the superb power of 31 stdheatsinks so it doesn´t run to hot and it doesn´t need endo steel dhs or anything like this.
The Ac20 and the 4 Ml make it actually much like an Ac40 and the ssrm are at least adequate to fend of some lights if you get a lock on them. It´s solely purpose is to brawl since you won´t do much dmg outside of 270 m, but if you get in range you pack quite some dmg won´t overheat to fast and still have your armor to rely on.
So it´s quite cheap and still capable of some kills.

My current build - Unicron!

Usually run with 2 SRM4's and an extra ton of AC/20 ammo but with the wonky SRM hit detection I'm experimenting with a long-range prod while I move to get up close and personal.

And no, don't sell the D. It can zombie better than the D-DC and, from what I've found, is largely targeted *after* the D-DC you're strolling over the hill with - giving you ample time to spread the love nearly unimpeded.
