Forgive me, I know a lot of this is "mary sue", but the Kast Alliance is a Periphery Nation my friends and I came up with way way back when, when we used to play pen&paper. Jayson Leird was my first character, so you will see snippets of his story in this history. The rest is fluff I started coming up with around 10 years ago, and I just recently started fleshing it out and making sure the time periods were right.

The Kast Alliance

Formed in 2789 as the single system Kast Kingdom by Jerrod (b. 2752-d. 2812) and Keri (b. 2761-d. 2812) Dayson. Kast itself is a two-planet system. The planet of Kast is the main hub of the Alliance, and its sister planet Keria is the main industrial center of the Alliance

Jerrod and Keri Dayson’s idea was to make a utopian society with imperialist rule. Most don’t think those things go together, but they seemed to make it work. Jerrod and Keri’s only daughter, Keria Dayson (b. 2775-d. 2868) took control of the Kingdom early in 2812 after her parent’s tragic death in a Dropship accident. Keria’s rule proved to be the most beneficial to Kast. She took the small settler planet of Yuma into her rule, forming the initial basis for the Kast Alliance. She also set into motion her father’s plans for making Kast a self-sufficient Periphery State, capable of functioning without outside influence. Her first step was setting up major industry on the already inhospitable planet named after her. This establishing of heavy industry on Keria allowed the planet of Kast to continue in its paradisiacal terraformation. Life on Kast continued much the same until 2957 when then rulers Jonathan and Katherine Dayson officially formed the Kast Alliance as a Periphery State. By that time, over 100 years since Keria formed the basis for the Alliance, Kast had a thriving economy. They were not totally self-contained yet, but that was to come as more and more nearby unaffiliated systems were taken under the Alliance’s wings. By the time the 31st Century rolled around, the Kast Alliance was totally self-contained, totally unreliant on outside influence. The nation is located rimward of the Capellan Confederation, next to the Taurian Concordat.

History

The Succession Wars

The Kast Kingdom and its progeny, the Kast Alliance, were formed soon after the fall of the Star League. Jerrod and Keri Dayson left from an unnamed House (believed to have been either House Davion or House Steiner) to form the Kast Kingdom in order to keep their child from the turmoil and tumult that was rampant throughout the Inner Sphere after the Amaris Coup. Essentially, the Succession Wars had no effect on the Kast Kingdom, and the later Kast Alliance. Keria Dayson formed a small, provincial Militia in the Yuma system, as well as a small Militia in Kast itself. By the formation of the Kast Alliance in 2957, the Kast military was quite strong, reinforced by various small Mercenary units enveloped by the expansion.

The Capellan Gambit

Early in the 31st Century, the Kast Alliance became totally autonomous, needing no support from any other House or State. Due to its proximity, the Capellan Confederation became concerned that the Kast Alliance wouldn’t need support, since until then the Kast Alliance had some nominal reliance on the Capellan Confederation, obtaining various items. The Liao family did not want to lose this source of revenue, and didn’t want them going to other sources for supplies. The Capellan Confederation responded to the complete separation of the Kast Alliance by attempting to invade the meager Periphery State. The single Capellan regiment sent rolled through the outlying worlds of the Alliance, coming to the system of Yuma, only one system away from Kast, in late May in 3007. The 10th Yuman Provincial Militia kept the Capellans from taking the system until reinforcements arrived from Kast. Fighting a guerrilla war for nearly three months between June and August 3007, the 10th Yuman defied the Capellan forces and ultimately won the war. The Capellan forces limped back home and the Kast Alliance continued for a few years uncontested.

The Kast Civil War

In 3019, Civil War began in the usually peaceful and loyal Kast Alliance. In 3017, unrest began in a few of the outer worlds of the Kast Alliance. It is believed that such unrest was actually started by Capellan Maskirovka agents spreading misinformation among the non-native Kastians. It is well known that native Kastians are very loyal, whereas the peoples of the various outlying worlds that were added in the Kast Alliance are not as loyal to the Dayson family rule. When all out Civil War began in March of 3019, it came as a complete shock then rulers Aleksandr (b. 2983-d. 3063) and Valentina (b. 2984-d. 3052) Dayson. The general populace was generally well compensated for their loyalty to the Alliance; people were well paid, and thanks to links to the medical abilities of the Free Worlds League, some of the healthiest citizens in the Periphery. Thanks to that fierce loyalty, the Civil War didn’t last long. Capellan units were found helping the “rebels” and were summarily defeated, much as they had been a decade earlier. After the Civil War, Kast once again entered a long period of relative peace.

The end of the Succession Wars, and the Rise of the Clans

The Kast Alliance was generally well insulated from the turmoil that existed in the Inner Sphere. All of the Houses, save for House Liao, left them alone to do as they wished. After the Fourth Succession War, and the relative peace that came during that period, the Kast Alliance enjoyed a significant boost to their economy when it was found that goods coming from the Alliance were extremely well made and quite exquisite, something the Alliance took pride in. Even the Capellan Confederation left the Alliance alone during this time. However, in 3049, right before the entrance of the Clans, the Alliance faced some troubles that caused them to become even more introverted. In 3049, the only daughter of Aleksandr and Valentina Dayson and Princess of the Kast Alliance, Katrina Dayson (b. 3029), was an accomplished Mechwarrior and did much work not only as an ambassador for the Alliance, but also something of a spy, gaining intelligence from the surrounding Periphery States as well as many of the Great Houses. At one point, while on Yamarovka, in the Draconis Combine, she came across a young man known as Jayson Leird (b. 3028). Her intelligence contacts in the Combine had given her an extremely interesting piece of information on him: He was an illegitimate son of Justin Allard. Taking him under her wing, she brought him back to Kast and began to teach him the art of being a Mechwarrior, with Jayson taking to it extremely fast. The two quickly developed a relationship and it wasn’t long before Jayson asked for her hand in marriage in early 3050. Shortly before their wedding, Katrina revealed the truth to Jayson that he was the son of Justin Allard, and they decided to travel to St. Ives to confront the Allard family. While walking back to their quarters one night after arriving on St. Ives, Jayson and Katrina were mugged in an alley, and Katrina was murdered before Jayson could even react (it has since been believed by Kast officials that she was actually assassinated by Maskirovka agents posing as muggers). Devastated and unsure of what to do, Jayson spent several days getting drunk in bars before finally going to Justin Allard to confront him. Upon being confronted, Justin admitted that Jayson was his illegitimate son. After spending some time with the Allards on St. Ives, Jayson returned to Kast, to report what had happened. The Alliance was devastated at the news of the loss of their beloved Katrina. Around this time, the first news of the Clan Invasion reached Kast, sending Kast in to an extreme Isolationist period.

Isolation

After the Clan Invasion, the Kast Alliance entered a period of Isolationism. Many of the home-grown Mercenary units were hired out to help the Inner Sphere defeat the Clans, but the Alliance itself and its military withdrew and would have nothing to do with the goings on around them. After the death of Aleksandr Dayson in 3063, the Alliance was left without a ruler, and Jayson Leird-Allard, due to his relationship with Katrina, was called upon to become leader of the Alliance. Jayson subsequently became the first non-Dayson and non-Kastian Native to become ruler of the Alliance.

Systems

Kast

The Kast System is the heart of the Kast Alliance. The system has two habitable planets, Kast and Keria. The planet of Kast is a veritable paradise, with lush forests, green fields and gorgeous vistas. No industries of any kind, other than small hand-made items, are allowed on Kast itself. Despite the beauty, the atmosphere is harsh, and it is difficult for off-worlders and non-natives to get used to it, usually causing a burning sensation and shortness of breath for some time. It is believed that the atmosphere is what causes native Kastians “uniqueness”. The planet Keria is a stark contrast, being a rocky, barren and inhospitable world with a non-breathable atmosphere. This made it a natural place for it to become the industrial center of the Alliance.

Major Cities:
Keri, Kast (the seat of power for Kast, and the home of Castle Dayson)
Valentina, Kast
Promshlennost, Keria

Yuma

The Yuma System was one of the first independent systems to join the Alliance. Just a single inhabitable planet exists in the system, named Yuma. The planet is a hot, harsh desert planet with extremely interesting flora and fauna. Being only a jump away from the Kast System, Yuma has been the host to the major battles of the Alliance’s past. Before Kast rule, the planet was only home to small numbers of settlers attempting to make a life on the harsh planet. Under Kast rule, the population flourished, becoming one of the most populous planets in the Alliance. There is also a sizable industry on Yuma.

Major Cities:
Yuma City
Gila Bend
Algodonez

St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg System is a small, one planet system a couple jumps away from Kast. A large ethnically Russian population inhabits St. Petersburg along with the nearby Arkhangelesk system which is also a part of the Alliance.

Arkhangelesk

Two inhabitable planets are found in the Arkhangelesk System; Arkhangelesk and Vostok. The population is primarily ethnic Russian and Mongolian. The planet Vostok is home to a sizable industry, primarily in military goods. Arkhangelesk is two jumps from Kast and one jump from St. Petersburg.

New Peoh

Three inhabitable planets exist in the New Peoh System; New Peoh VII, Lester’s Reach and Deans. The New Peoh system was one of the most recent to enter the Alliance. Lester’s Reach was a former pirate haven and fought hard to resist Kastian rule. Deans and Lester’s Reach were also the first planets to rebel during the Civil War of 3019. New Peoh is three jumps from any other Kast Alliance system.

People

Native Kastians are an extremely interesting people. Due to Jerrod and Kari’s rules and controls, Native Kastians are known to be an extremely beautiful people. 99% of the Native Kastian population has white, gray or platinum blonde hair and blue or green eyes, genetic traits attributed to the environment of Kast. Typically very stoic and fiercely loyal, Kastians have been the subject of many scientific studies over the years. Other ethnicities represented in the Alliance include Russians, Mongolians, Chinese, Japanese, and various others in smaller amounts.

Politics and Social Structure

High emphasis is placed on the role of the Matriarch, primarily due to the lone rule of Keria Dayson early in Alliance history. While a male Dayson is named the ruler, he is usually the figurehead to the female. Several times the female Dayson has kept her family name even after marriage, and given her progeny the Dayson name in order to keep the rule in the family name (such as is the case with Keria). The political structure of the Alliance has been described as Imperialist-Communist or Imperialist-Socialist, which would be apt for the ruling style of the Dayson family. With Jayson Leird-Allard becoming King in 3063, much of the power was handed over to a Parliament of various representatives of the worlds under the Alliance, with Leird-Allard giving final say on any decisions made. Keria Dayson is treated with religious devotion through much of the Alliance, particularly among Native Kastians. After her death in 3050, Katrina Dayson also became somewhat of a deity.

Military

Much of the military structure of the Alliance is unknown, primarily the makeup of the military of Kast itself. It is known that some Star League technology has been sighted in use by Kastian units, as well as the units of the most loyal parts of the Alliance (primarily Yuman units). It is believed that some industry on Keria is devoted to replicating Star League technology in small numbers. After the influence of Jayson Leird-Allard post-3050, some industry was dedicated to making home-grown ‘mech designs. It is believed that most Star League technology in Kastian hands that wasn’t replicated was brought when Jerrod and Keri Dayson left the Inner Sphere shortly after the Amaris Coup. The Kastian Military was also sighted with at least one WarShip, a Sovetskii Soyuz-Class, before WarShips were widely rediscovered in the Inner Sphere.

Known Units

1st Kastian Royal Guard (main bodyguard unit of the Royal Family, personal unit of Katrina Dayson)
1st Keria Protector Guard
1st-10th Yuman Provincial Militia
7th and 8th Vostok Hussars (both are believed to have originally been mercenary units)
2nd Arkhangelesk Cossacks

Mercenary Units

Jayson’s Dire Wolves (Jayson Leird-Allard’s personal Mercenary unit, stationed on Kast)
Yuman Fightin’ Prospectors
Lester’s Gunmen (destroyed by Clan Jade Falcon in 3051)
Several others destroyed by the Clans during the invasion, 3050-3055
