Hi, and thanks for a great game so far ;)

My suggestion is some small graphical and sound suggestions for the overheating and overrides. In the books, overheating sounds really scary and is fairly graphical. In the game, it feels a bit more like a purely mechanical issue, not something that also affects the pilot.

My suggestion is adding some light steam and maybe some heat distortions when you overheat or punch the override. Especially when you punched the override and it is dangerous to overheat again, I think it would add to the tension to be made aware of the human inside the cockpit.

On the sound side, aside from the hissing of a bursting pipe, I don't know if it would be too much to add the pilot panting from the heat, but that might also work.

That's it for now, keep up the good work!

That is already ingame. Your ammo can explode when you override to often. And your mech will produce steam . Even with soundeffects xD

I know the ammo can explode, I exploded spectacularly a few day ago ;) Don't mean external steam, I mean inside the cockpit. If it's already in there, I guess I just haven't noticed it. The main point is I feel a bit detached from the mech during overheating.

Yeah, this happend quite a bit in the GDL trilogy. They even had to open the top hatch of the Locust to let some cool air in at one point.

yea, that's the stuff I'm talking about. You are only wearing briefs and a cooling vest, and the heat inside the cockpit at 100% is supposed to be intense. Right now the overheat is represented mostly by the malfunction of your HUD. Once you start back up, the cockpit still looks the same as 3% heat.

Also high heat should affect mech handling, like slower speed and turn rate

When my mech is steaming (and i have to look through it) from heat my framerate drops significantly (like 5 fps), so I just pretend that the mech is all sluggish and grinding away on overheated bearings..

Just wear a diaper, drink a lot of water be playing and then just wet yourself when you shutdown after an override. The heat generated really feels real. :D :P

Would be a nice animation.

Anything that adds immersion, im all for.

Unfortunately, this is going to be very low on the priority list.

fog on the inside of the glass to lower your vision this coming from a stker pilot. that would be a good visual addon imo

Could be nice add to the game, lets say if you overheat at >95%, your cross-hair becomes unstable and you suddenly go dark and could get unconscious, not necessarily...
If there is like medical history of pilot and stuff, could affect game quite a bit.

I think thats a great idea. Other immersion ideas.
  • Monitors failing /breaking
  • Glass in cockpit breaking
    • Snow levels will bring the cold and snow into the cockpit
    • Rain will go into cockpit / wind/rain/thunder noise prominent
    • Caustic map will cause heat waves within the cockpit / steam
  • Internal fires
  • Multiple levels of Mech Movement audio based off damage
    • 100% Normal mechanical sounds during movements
    • 75% Gears start to grind a bit harder
    • 50% Popping and clang noises can be heard during movement
    • 25% Starts to sound like a beat up truck
Eh, all suggestions. I was going to stop at monitors failing, but my imagination went bonkers. I don't care what people say, I enjoy this game and I look forward to the updates.

Yea, it's purely cosmetic. But! It would be awesome, and fairly easy to make, since they already have the code for steam and smoke ingame. Heat distortions would be a filter on top of the rendered visuals, and I think the game already supports that as well.

Some heat haze in the cockpit and visibility distortions & such would be excellent.

Seems like this would be a good tweak then!

Heat should significant impair your movement... 20-60% reduction in top speed and associated turning rates.

It should also affect your accuracy... but they haven't managed to implement convergence yet, so...

I think this would be a bit harsh, even for overheating. I think the penalties are high enough, and it's a fun mechanic as it is. What I want is simply more dramatic overheating
